Cannot login to Outlook due to error "Something went wrong.."

Original title: Outlook LIVE (outlook.com) "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later".

I have a custom domain running Outlook LIVE through outlook.com.  I've had an old passport account which has been with me for a long time but didn't used to have email associated with it.  I recently updated it to have email enabled, but I'm not able to login to outlook live with that account.

How can I get around the "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later" error, or determine what the problem is?  I waited about a month but I'm still having the same problem.  I would really like to get email onto this account since it's the account I have all of my other things (xbox, phone, win8) pointed to.

Thanks

I'm having this problem but only on my desktop computer.  I can access my email on my laptop just fine.  I thought maybe it was that I accidentally deleted something that caused it, but I reinstalled Hotmail on my computer and it still doesn't work.  I restored my computer to an earlier date when I know it worked and that didn't fix it either.
