I'm trying to add a contact. If I click on the plus sign below the "First name", "Last name", and "Company" field, I see a pop-up whose first two entries, "Yomi name" and "Yomi company" don't mean anything to me. Here's a picture:

Yomi name and Yomi company name are fields for entering the phonetic equivalent for Japanese names. In Japan, there is commonly a Furigana equivalent for the Kanji name that is used for sorting and searching.

Why would anyone use that translation as a reference, let alone Wikipedia, and subsequently use the "Yomi" field?
Upon looking at my previous reply, I didn't explain it thoroughly. When learning how to write in Japanese (even in Japan), you first learn "Hiragana." It's the alphabet and easy to memorize. It's also added onto Kanji (Chinese characters) in the Japanese language. In the "Yomi" field, the name is spelled in Hiragana, for this reason. It's universally understood. Unlike Kanji, there is no meaning behind the Hiragana characters except for those with grammatical purposes and only when used for everything except Names do they have a meaning. "Yomu" means "to read." Verbs typically end with "-u." "Yomi" is "reading." It's the common and widely known translation and therefore the obvious one being used. Even if it weren't obvious, it would make sense for one to realize it's the correct context.
Regardless, Microsoft should include a description or change the title altogether. I didn't notice it existed until it appeared on my phone for contacts with Japanese names.
Instead of "Yomi name", it should read "Ad a field". I thought this would be fixed couple years ago. I don't see any improvement as an end user even though windows and office is completely has been remodeled.
While small businesses are forced to upgrade their systems, how can IT department submit these bills when there is nothing new or better to motivate them.

It so happens that, while working on a river blindness control project in Nigeria in the mid-90s, one of my colleagues was named "Yomi" so, the very first time i saw "Yomi name" in outlook, I thought that somehow, my old friend had gotten in touch with me!! And, until now when I finally explored this question, it's been a puzzle.
My suggestion to Microsoft: If it is deemed necessary to include "Yomi name", add a brief explanation so that, the vast majority of users (who will not bother to google this question) won't be puzzled like I've been, until this moment. Thanks
Windows 10, the new version that is set to come out is not going to be free. A beta probably won't come out for a year. Why would it be free? When I buy a 2013 Honda they don't send me a 2015 for free :)

That is an excellent analogy—in my opinion—because Honda is a Japanese company which will undoubtedly have great need for the "Yomi Name" entry being discussed in this conversation.
