How do i prevent the outlook logout from redirecting to msn?

Is there any way yet that we can avoid to be forwarded to msn.com. I don't want to offend you but this "news" page of trash is not of my taste and I will be very grateful if there is a way to "bypass".

Remind me when did the OP first ask his question in this thread... June 29th 2013? Now remind me it is now approaching the end of March 2016 right and still not one common sense answer from the Community forum moderators. I have never known so many people on one forum offering to assist you with an issue and actually provide no solution whatsoever, unbelievable.  The only rational explanation given was that MSN was the default web page you are directed to after signing out of Outlook. Really! Well obviously for a lot of end users it wasn't and if someone who was actually employed by Microsoft cared enough to read the number of complaints in this thread they would quickly realise that.  I don't have any solution myself but I can tell you I disabled Internet explorer totally as Microsoft seemed to have hijacked it for their aggressive and relentless marketing of Windows 10 alongside their unwanted and clandestine Important update KB3035583 that most end users will have 'unknowingly' downloaded onto their PC's.

Don't get me wrong I genuinely like Microsoft the contribution their OS and software products have made to the overall acceptance of a computer literate global audience is undeniable. Nevertheless, despite all that know how they can't offer one single straight forward answer to stop the end user logging out of their Hotmail account without being redirected to MSN. Or they don't actually want you to find a solution.

Just for the record I'm now using Google Chrome for my web browser. Yesterday I signed out of Hotmail and was redirected to MSN.  I thought I'd disabled Internet explorer and totally vanquished it into obscurity so I would never have to see the MSN homepage all be it temporarily demoted to the background and greyed out whilst a blue flash screen with white type face overlaying a third of the entire page screamed at me to Update to windows 10. So once again I found myself or rather my PC hijacked by Microsoft's marketing people even though I'd totally disabled Internet explorer. If I wanted Windows 10 I'd upgrade! Stop harassing me and surreptitiously undermining our privacy with clandestine marketing tactics disguised as Important updates!

Microsoft please learn we like your products most of them anyhow and there are always going to be people opposed to change just like there was when we were all invited to update to XP or Vista. I remember the backlash from that but honestly accept there are end users out there who absolutely hate Windows 10 with a vengeance including myself. Give me Windows 7 Pro everyday of the week. If I was forced into upgrading to Windows 10 then I'd rather choose another product unrelated to Microsoft.

I digressed ok streamlining your product to save on overhead is one thing aggressively selling your product is another but disguising your marketing strategies as an important update to sell that product is on an entirely different level altogether. Would an employee of Microsoft care to contribute to this forum and suggest a solution that resolves the OP's initial question as he speaks for many end users who do not want to be redirected to MSN after signing out of their Hotmail account. I don't personally mind MSN it's trivial media of no importance but others feel more strongly! I only disabled Internet explorer and the MSN homepage because I was really pissed having to look at the blue flash screen hijacking the page to inform me of the upgrade to Windows 10 each time that I log in. For me this is more inconvenient than the OP's comments. FYI go to control panel>windows update>view updates and delete update KB303558 from your PC and this should prevent the blue nag screen from appearing whenever you launch explorer. It should also remove the white windows logo that you may or may not have noticed on the right hand side of your task bar. This is relevant to anyone who hasn't yet upgraded. So far I've just elected to set Google Chrome as my default browser although as illustrated above if I sign into/out of Hotmail from GC  I'm redirected to MSN anyway. In other words not only have I elected to select GC as my default browser rather than Microsoft's IE 11 but I am no longer using MSN as my homepage as Microsoft no doubt would prefer. What next Gmail? abandon Hotmail altogether probably a bit extreme just because of a redirection and not really practical if you have a lot of contacts who are familiar with your email address or applications linked to your account but you see where I'm going.

Microsoft you can call it a well planned and effective marketing strategy but its called alienating your customer base in the real world.

I can't believe how stupid I must be! I found a really simple solution. Well kind of it stops the page from redirecting to MSN anyway. It may or may not work for you depending on your browser settings etc. In fact I think someone else already suggested it earlier in the thread so I can't take the credit. The OP's solution didn't really sink into my dumb brain at the time because I was quickly reading through every thread to find an answer. I finally rediscovered it for myself when I inadvertently closed hotmail without signing out. If you're really observant you'll notice I've already given you the answer. If you'd like a further explaination....

All you have to do if you don't want to be redirected to MSN don't sign out of outlook/hotmail instead look up to the top right hand corner of your screen you see that little rectangular red box with the [x] in it alongside the minimize/ maximize window buttons. Click on this and you should be redirected back to your desktop or whatever program you were running when you suddenly had that urge to check your email. This works for me but as above I am now using Google Chrome as my default browser not IE 11. 

Don't worry I am not going to explain again why? If your wondering hotmail will automatically sign you out after 10/15 minutes. I wouldn't suggest not signing out of your email account on a public network i.e. at an internet cafe for examplebut then I think it's relatively safe to assume most of you are more concerned with being redirected to MSN from the privacy of your own PC.

Obviously if you were on a public network at an internet cafe or at your the local library or some other place for instance then you wouldn't care less what page you were redirected to and you'd sign out as a matter of security anyway. Just wanted to let you know I'm dumb but not entirely stupid!
