You are receiving the error: ***“******You're currently signed in with an Office 365 email account, which can't be used with Outlook.com”*because of the following reasons:

  1. Your Microsoft account was registered or still registered in Office 365.
  2. Your Microsoft account ends with .edudomain extension name and is being managed by your University domain administrator.

Please follow the instructions below to prevent receiving the error message when accessing your account.

  1. Make sure that you are using a different browser or try InPrivate Browsing (IE) / Incognito mode (Chrome) as this will keep your sessions separate and at least allow different sessions per window. You can visit this link for additional reference.
  2. Try to log into http://*mail.**office365**.com*

If your Microsoft account was registered or still registered in Office 365:

  1. Make sure that you're signed out from any Microsoft services.
  2. Optimize your browser by clearing its cache and cookies. You may follow the instructions in this **link** on how to do it.
  3. Then, sign into your account through this link: https://login.microsoftonline.com/  . You should not encounter the error message again.

If your Microsoft account ends with .edu domain extension name and is being managed by your University domain administrator:

  1. Make sure that you're signed out from any Microsoft services.
  2. Optimize your browser by clearing its cache and cookies. You may follow the instructions in this **link** on how to do it.
  3. Sign in to your account through http://www.outlook.com/\[yourdomainextensionname\] Example: Your email address ******@sample.edu. You should sign in throughhttp://www.outlook.com/sample.edu
  4. Please try to contact your University domain administrator and check for possible issues.

Thanks!

Here is what just worked for me, may others can check and see if the same situation applies to them.

My university e-mail recently switched to Office 365, but my job's e-mail was still with Outlook.  So, I had to switch back and forth between the two.

Apparently, however, my company switched to Office 365 just the other day and I didn't know it.  So, when I tried to log on to Outlook I received this dreaded message.

Here is what worked for me.  My colleague told me to log out of my university Office 365 account and then log in on Office 365 with my job's e-mail address.

So, you might want to give that a try.  Log out of whatever other Office 365 accounts you might have and then sign back into Office 365 (NOT Outlook) with the e-mail address you are trying to check.

I hope this helps (and I don't so how it could hurt to try).

    Jen:

The instructions below do not work for me.  I have been unable to access my outlook.com account for around nine months now.

My primary Live Id uses a cornell.edu alumnus email account, which is basically an email forwarding service.  When Cornell deployed Office 365, the account stopped working on Outlook.

    cf http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/mail-signin/cant-access-outlookcom-with-microsoft-account-with/c7ffe076-fb77-4514-82a4-7bd2e83337b7

I've submitted Fiddler traces twice now, and I've been asked to be patient several times in these forums by Microsoft support.  I'm still being patient, but I'd really appreciate a substantial update on why I can't access outlook.com

On May 30th on the earlier thread, you wrote the following: "The Product Team is extensively investigating this issue. We will immediately update this thread once we receive the complete details."  Have the complete details been received yet?

I should add that the solutions provided do not work for me.

If I attempt to log into https://login.microsoftonline.com/ ...

You are not licensed to use Microsoft Office 365. Before you can begin using Office 365 services, you must have a license assigned to you. If you are an administrator, you can assign yourself a license; otherwise, contact your administrator and request a license to use Office 365.

If I attempt to log into http://www.outlook.com/cornell.edu...

A mailbox couldn't be found for xxxy @cornell.edu . If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk.

If I attempt to log into http://www.outlook.com/ ...

This account can't be used to access Outlook.com. You're currently signed in with an Office 365 email account, which can't be used with Outlook.com. Please click here to sign out of your Office 365 account, then use another Microsoft account to sign in to Outlook.com (for example, your hotmail.com, live.com, or msn.com account).

Needless to say, I'm willing to provide all the information needed to investigate this issue.  Just please do something with it this time.
