how to disable my messenger auto sign in on Outlook.com

I already read and search frm any ...but still can't solve the problems. Help~~~~ I don't want messenger auto sign in,  how  to turn it off..

As previous suggestions, just click for invisible, but it will also invisible at my Skype software too , I just want to sign out on the Outlook.com mail not the Skype software.

Hi Everyone,

I apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused you on your end. Please be informed though that the option to sign out of Messenger in Outlook.com is not available. Like what the previous moderators have mentioned, the current option that we have is to set your status as invisible. Also, if you are signed onto Windows Live Messenger, you have the option to Sign out from the web, this would disable your Web messenger in the meantime.

Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Firstly, please don't swear. This is a family forum.

Secondly, the people on this forum, even MVPs, are not employed by Microsoft. We are just ordinary users like you who freely come on here to help other users. Demanding we "fix it" won't help.

Thirdly, I quite like outlook.com but, like you, I don't like the current messenger issue. It's one of the few hassles I have with outlook.com. Microsoft are not likely to see much of what is posted on these forums as they are only for supporting users, but if you use the link below you can leave feedback.

I can see you wish to turn off Messenger in Outlook.com. Let me see how I can help.

I've simulated my Outlook interface and found out that the steps below turn off Messenger in Outlook.com:

1. Sign in your account.

  1. Go to People or Mail Page.
  2. Click on the human figure symbol and click on Invisible.

If issue persists, please let us know so we can help you further resolve your issue.

    Invisible ? What is the point of that !!!!!!!! It solves NOTHING !!

    (+ clearly has major disadvantages which causes other problems)

    So it seems everyone has known of this issue for while: (3 months from first post)

    (yet nothing changes - Including outlook.com help)

    They want to use stand-alone INSTANT MSG. PROGRAMS - for MSGs. ONLY  <<-- waves hand - me, me

    THEY MOST DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT WEB_EMAIL & MESSENGER FORCEFULLY COMBINED !!!

    Today I got some VERY important INSTANT msgs - trapped in my WEB-BASED-EMAIL

    I have a MUTED version of FireFox (who likes  ADs from pop-up etc blasting speakers while family sleeps)

    • so didn't even know they were there

    THEN- Because of a clash with my INSTANT MSG. PROGRAM

    the WEB-BASED-EMAIL (with forced messengering ) signed out -

    The MSGs became lost, seems outlook.com does not store MSG history..

    (last msg showed - but there were more - lost to cyber-space!)

    WEB-BASED-EMAIL (with forced messengering ) has caused me grief before but not like today !

    I have previously WASTED time trying to turn it off !

    Today events caused me MAJOR grief !!! = This was motivation to go in seek of ANSWERS

    • In Outlook.com I click "Help Button" wasted my time and couldn't even find the above "quote" anywhere in HELP - and read LOTS..

    (So they know about the "issue" but would rather hush, hush - than be open about it)

    • MS then asked me if I wanted to give them "Feedback About My Experience"

    in the form of a survey - I said OK - turns out the survey had NOTHING to do with "my experience"

    • My education & income - Seriously ?
    • It was more about "Windows 8"
    • which I don't/wont use - new is really better  ? cough, cough !

    I have tried to be opened minded about outlook.com Vs hotmail.com but today is my snapping point.

    This forum has "Moderators" which by their own admission are not "connected" with MS, it really makes me wonder why they waste people's time.. If they 'went away' maybe MS would need to supply authoritative Moderators "Who CAN actually make a difference"

    Any idiot can work out 99% of their replies is nothing more than "Copy / Paste" replies anyway.

    EDIT: I went to submit this MSG. and it did nothing, eventually I tried Avant browser & it informed me there was "One more Step to complete before I could post" (my very first post)

    I came to this community page from an "Already Signed In Browser" (signed in from Outlook.com)

    Showing my User Name as "Signed In" at top right..

    After clicking Submit - there was No Msg as to why it wouldnt work, just went nowhere - sigh

    After the Visit via Avant and completing "The Step" I returned - here we go again - Working Now ?

    EDIT2 "Yes I was able to Submit this post this time on my original browser.

    So this proves YET another BUG in functionality  !!

    Very frustrating it would have been easier to give up..

    THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION !

    Will MS ever add the option to use Outlook.com as a WEB-MAIL ONLY service

    No more FORCED messaging  or not ??

    I can list loads of obvious bugs..

    These I noticed today..

    Try "People" at a slightly reduced zoom

    Pure Genius !

    Try posting a link in an email in Outlook.com which has an apostrophe will result in a 404

    You must manually edit the html to make it work

    Outlook.com still does not have a sign-out feature separate from signing out of the site itself. However, before Microsoft discontinued Windows Live Messenger, if I logged into WLM, then logged out, it would sign me out of the Messenger program embedded in outlook.com.

    With Skype replacing WLM, users need to sign out of Skype, and then set the status to invisible in outlook.com's messenger separately.

    Not surprising, as Skype is a separate program. Though now we login to Skype if we had used WLM previously, it still is a separate program.

    However, at times I would like to not have the embedded messenger program active.

    I can see how combining the chat and e-mail features together in the site might be useful, but I don't like always having the Messenger program as active. I like to keep my e-mail tab on my browser active while I am home instead of using a shell program like Outlook or Windows Live Mail. I actually like the overall interface better than the previous mail.live.com or hotmail.com.

    But actually, if Outlook.com's messenger program had signed out before when Windows Live Messenger was still available (without signing out of Outlook.com), it should be a possibility to make it an option to sign out separately.

    I believe that sometimes I am also automatically signed out of the program if I am idle or something too. It shows that it is signing into messenger separately from logging into Outlook.com, but that it is programmed to automatically sign in when logging into Outlook.com.
