When phishing scams are reported to Outlook what happens to them?

I reported two phishing scams to Outlook by clicking on the drop down "report phishing scam" in the Outlook mail app. Where does the phish e-mail go and is it reported to the genuine company, in this case a bank? Also, why can't a suspicious e-mail be forwarded to a reporting agency without opening it and exposing my computer and possibly my contact list to the bad guys?

    Hi kilkarneyknight,

I understand that you would like to know what happens to an email once it was reported as Phishing. I know how important this must be on your end. Don't worry, let us help you with this.

Please be informed that once an email has been reported as Phishing, this email goes to your Junk Folder and the email address automatically goes to your Blocked Senders List.

Please let us know if you have additional questions.

    Thanks!

Is that all it does? So you are not using the information to help combat phishing and fraud in any way?

I am quite disappointed but not surprised.

    Hi oli merge,

I understand that you want to ensure the privacy and security of your account.

In addition to the post of my colleague, Denise T., a reported phishing website must be confirmed by reputable sources as fraudulent. One of our support team shall investigate the website and/or email address/es thoroughly before we block them. For more information about this issue, I suggest that you visit this link.

If you have other questions or clarifications, please let us know.

    Thank you.

I had the same question. If that's all that happens with my pishing "reports", I could just as easily place them in my blocked folder myself.

Having that option gives "us" a false sense that something is being "done" about scammers.

    I'm disappointed Outlook.
