If you happen to use either FireFox or Chrome as your Web browser, there is an add on available that gets rid of the side bar ads.  It is called WebMail Ad Blocker. I use it, and it works.  It is free.  Just search for it in FireFox's add on area, or online.

It works along with the browser, so you do not have to "re-click" anything to keep the ads from coming back. I hope this helps you.

    Good Luck!

I hate that ad bar with a passion! If I can't remove it, or if they don't remove it, I'm going to stick a piece of paper with some tape to that side of my laptop screen out of sheer spite and I will REFUSE to buy anything that pops up there. I suspect that they will use the content of my archived emails to generate "user-friendly" ads.

My absolute metaphysical antipathy began when I went to the www.outlook.com website. Microsoft in all of the artificial intelligence saw that and took that as a sign that I wanted to "upgrade" my Hotmail account to their "new and improved" outlook email client. I sent their customer service an email voicing my displeasure and indicated my unease at their wanton disregard for the end-user's ability at least know about the change before having it thrust upon them. No boxes to click, no warning, just, "Hey, here you are. And, your welcome." *pat on the head* *patronizing grin*

There is absolutely nothing significantly better about the experience WHATSOEVER. Only an attempt to put another turnstile up in my email inbox.

Microsoft has the immeasurable gift of knowing how to callously alienate it's user base. Way to go, MS.

Just in case I didn't get my point across, there is no expletive, no invective that fully captures my hate, loathing, disgust, abhorrence, sadness, etc. at the choice that Microsoft has made in this instance. But I DO look forward to completing the online survey that they asked me to fill out when I came to this page.

Ive just seen on You Tube how you can Block Ad pop ups and Block Side Advert bar in the section called MY CHOICES on the new 2013 Outlook email system.

It works ---- until the next time you actually click on anything at all in your email page then it reverts to adding the adverts back on the side.

Really stupid - even the Micrsoft help section in MY CHOICES doesnt work.

Dont worry everyone - there is a chinese chap who states in the telegraph on sunday that he is ready to dominate Europe with his company Lenovo  and wants to be bigger then APPLE.

He may give us a somethig we all want

How do we complain to Microsoft?  Does anyone from Microsoft ever bother to look at these MS Commmunity messages?

I hate the sidebar - it takes up a quarter of the already small screen on my netbook.

Another thing I hate - yes, I'll put it on a different thread - is not being able to see a simple, straightforward list of my Contacts addresses for adding recipients to emails I'm sending. Instead of that it's name, photo, address all taking up 5 or 6 times as much space as Live/Hotmail list.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
