How do I permanently disable MSN chat in Outlook?

I never wanted to be able to use the MSN chat while checking my emails. I was able to disable it via hotmail but now this option is gone. The only thing it lets me do is turn invisible. It doesn't let me log out of the chat without that also logging me out of my inbox. Please fix this or let me know how I turn the chat feature off without resorting to an ad blocker. Thanks!

We apologize for the delayed response to your concern as we are now having a high volume of support request from customers. We appreciate your effort in sharing your thoughts to our feedback page.

Rest assured that Microsoft is reviewing what customer's have posted there to consider the features that should be added in the new Outlook interface for product development. Currently, we don't have an option to turn off automatic log in to Messenger, you can just turn your profile as "Invisible" while checking your emails.

Your patience to this matter is very much appreciated.

    I've found a nice Chrome Extension plug-in that completely removes Messenger related <div> elements from the rendered HTML page, so when this option becomes available, we'll all be glad and will be able to use our e-mail service just as it should have been made from the start... as an e-mail service.

    The simple fact is people have been asking now for over 1 1/2 years for this to be changed.  WE, the community do not want to have a mandatory link between our email and the chat, we like to have them independent from each other.  WE, the community, or at least most of us wanted that flexibility from the beginning.  WE, the community, like it when we feel we have a little control over what we do and use.

    And the main question here is:  When will YOU pay attention to "WE" the community?  And please, do not give this concern and loud opinion the above "standard" and "scripted" response.  It is a shame that in such a long time that simple change could not be implemented.  And here I thought I must be not looking close enough, I was, It just did not occur to  me that Microsoft did this on purpose (unknown to us) and has no plans to change it.

    Most of the people trying to help here don't work for Microsoft.  Those that have the "Microsoft" badge by their names are typically contractors who filter issues to support teams.  Making suggestions here in these forums about Microsoft services will never reach the design teams.  The best method (however weak it may seem) to make your wishes known to Microsoft is via the feedback links that are posted of by calling Microsoft directly.
