How do I permanently disable MSN chat in Outlook?

I never wanted to be able to use the MSN chat while checking my emails. I was able to disable it via hotmail but now this option is gone. The only thing it lets me do is turn invisible. It doesn't let me log out of the chat without that also logging me out of my inbox. Please fix this or let me know how I turn the chat feature off without resorting to an ad blocker. Thanks!

We apologize for the delayed response to your concern as we are now having a high volume of support request from customers. We appreciate your effort in sharing your thoughts to our feedback page.

Rest assured that Microsoft is reviewing what customer's have posted there to consider the features that should be added in the new Outlook interface for product development. Currently, we don't have an option to turn off automatic log in to Messenger, you can just turn your profile as "Invisible" while checking your emails.

Your patience to this matter is very much appreciated.

    Any update on this Microsoft? 

    Since users started requesting actually useful responses to this query (rather than automated banalities) it's gone awfully quiet on here...

    Have you not considered how annoying this new feature is for people trying do read/write email to be constantly bothered by chat messages? It makes using the actual email fairly impossible.

    Secondly, it makes people angry - nobody asked for this, while many are asking for it to be removed/given an opt-out mode. It also removes CONTROL over user privacy entirely from your customers and places it solely into Microsoft's hands - this is a fundamental violation of what people actually want from their web services.

    MS have been forcing users into increasingly crappy products for over a year since the Hotmail>Outlook upgrade. I wrote a post about that which went viral as there were so many disgruntled users (read it here http://www.etondigital.com/hotmail-upgrades-to-outlook-first-impressions-not-good/ )

    Now it seems, MS are topping it all off with an even more unpopular feature. Even Facebook allows you to turn chat mode off. Is this sheer incompetence (i.e. you didn't anticipate people would actually want to opt out) or blatant disregard for users (i.e. you expected this reaction but don't care). Either way it's another bit of genius customer care from Microsoft - promotions all round!

    How many times are we to suggest this feature before you people start listening? It's been posted time and time again. We do not want this feature. I've suggested it on your feedback page. I know others have.

    Stop referring us to post in your suggestion section, it's insulting when it's obvious nobody is listening to the users. Do you really think we are that easy to get rid of?

    You do realize you are talking about the same people that brought us windows 8, right?

    The "listening to the users" is not in their vocabulary, they know better what people want, even better then the people themselves!

    Hi Microsoft,

    Do you have buglist/feature request list.

    Is this request in the list, or any bugtracker allowed for public viewing? It's been 1 year since this posting (and on and off we kept requesting this). We're doubting that this issue was put into concern.

    I normally on my email 24/7 (in browser), and I normally put my skype in offline mode (when I don't want to chat). It's troublesome to need to remember to turn off/on invisible mode (both in hotmail or skype).

    Same here Caroline!  I hate the fact I can't check my email without getting the irritating MSN page! Also, as I have 2 email accounts, when I log out of one, to check the other ( another terrible feature - with Hotmail I could just switch between the 2 accounts) the dire MSN appears and makes me wait ages before it stabilizes enough for me to 'sign in' to the other account. 

    Is there a way of disabling MSN?
