Configuring preferences and options in Outlook.com
Hi Denise,
I hope this is going to help you. When in your Outlook click on the Gear (top right) then click on MAIL, LAYOUT, MESSAGE FORMAT and keep it in HTML and make your changes.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I am using Outlook.com on Windows 7 (SP1) and IE10 (with latest update.)
Language is set to English UK.
The font keeps changing when I send an email.
No matter what font and size I use this problem occurs.
I type an email and it looks fine and then I send it.
However, when I see it in the sent folder, the font on some lines or paragraphs has changed - normally to a smaller size.
If I paste anything from a Word Document, the problem is even worse.
I have sent myself emails from Outlook.com using another account and email client to receive them and the emails look terrible and very unprofessional.
I have tried every solution suggested on the internet clear IE temporary files etc. uninstall Silverlight - but to no avail.
I have used Google Chrome browser - same problem.
Until I can resolve this, I am using eM Client software to send and received my outlook.com emails.
Is anyone aware of this problem please and any potential solutions.
Thank you.

Hi Denise,

When I click on the gear in my Outlook email, I do not get these things to from which to choose. I can choose a color for the layout, I can choose where I want the reading pane, and then I can select

If I select Options, under Writing email, I can choose Formatting, font and signature. I then select the font, size and color I want, click save and go back to writing my email. But halfway through the body of my message, the font defaults back to Calibri and the smaller default size. This will happen sometimes in the middle of a sentence!
Potterbrain's suggestion of selecting all once you have completed your message, then changing the font, size and color to your preferences seem to help. But I still occasionally get friends telling me my message has come through in a mixture of fonts and sizes. C'mon, Billy Gates, surely you can fix a simple problem like this???

I don't find this reply helpful in that I did everything suggested in the article but still find that recipients experienced random changes of font sizes in my emails to them. I have abandoned using outlook.com for professional communications until this is rectified as it looks unprofessional. I was hoping that this might have been rectified by now since I first posted about this issue in 2013.
After having loads of aggravation with fonts changing since the inception of Outlook.com I am pleased to report that it has been finally solved.
The reason is - my webmail - "Outlook.com" has been automatically upgraded to "Outlook Mail".
There are several changes and it is a vast improvement in both appearance and functionality. I hope it remains that way.
You will know immediately when it is upgraded - The "Outlook.com" title at the top left of the webmail window will change to read "Outlook Mail"
