Hello -

When I attempt to add my outlook.com email account to any iOS device I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information".

I see this problem on my iPhone 4s and iPad and all devices are running iOS5.01 with no additional updates available.

I followed these steps to setup my account

-settings, add new mail account

-selected Hotmail

-entered my outlook.com address (full SMTP address - eg ******@outlook.com) and my password

-after several seconds I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information"

Power cycling the devices doesn't help.  Everything works fine from the web.

Any ideas?

Just upgraded to iOS8.0.1 and had exactly the problem described. I went into Outlook through a browser, disabled my phone and turned off 2 step security and boom... It worked just like you said. MICROSOFT - you need to fix the bug!!!

I am having the same problem trying to add my hotmail account to my IPHONE.  I get the message "EXCHANGE ACCOUNT Unable to verify account information.  I have tried it with s.outlook.com and m.hotmail.com as server and I keep getting the same message.  My account name and password are both verified on the first screen.  PLEASE HELP.  I have spent too many hours trying to set this up.

    Thank you!

    Hi PaulGlanville,

Thank you for posting your question here in Microsoft Community. We understand that you are also having a hard time in setting up your account on your mobile device.

To start with, can you confirm if you are trying to configure a Microsoft Exchange account? if yes, then you will need to contact your domain administrator as Exchange accounts have different settings.

Now if you are just using a regular Microsoft Account, can you confirm if you are able to access your account using a web browser? If yes, then there is a possibility that this issue might be account specific. To help us narrow down the issue, please answer the following:

    ·         Does the same issue persist if you configure a different account on your iPhone?

    ·         Does the issue persist if you configure your account using a different device?

    ·         Did you make any changes to your account prior to this issue?

    ·         Did you enable Two-step Verification? If yes, then you will need an app password to access your account. For more information, please refer to this article: App passwords and two-step verification

We are looking forward to your response. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to post back.

    Regards,

    Johayber T.

You are a hero!  I have been trying for months to find a solution. I just logged into my outlook.com account from my PC, went to Options - Account Details, then Security Info and turned off two-step verification and also removed my iPhone phone number. I went back to my iPhone to add my Outlook.com mail account and it worked immediately. I can't thank you enough!
