Hello -
When I attempt to add my outlook.com email account to any iOS device I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information".
I see this problem on my iPhone 4s and iPad and all devices are running iOS5.01 with no additional updates available.
I followed these steps to setup my account
-settings, add new mail account
-selected Hotmail
-entered my outlook.com address (full SMTP address - eg ******@outlook.com) and my password
-after several seconds I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information"
Power cycling the devices doesn't help. Everything works fine from the web.
Any ideas?

THEN DISABLE ANY MOBILE NUMBER YOU HAVE LISTED THERE! DISABLE 2 STEPS OF SECURITY AS WELL AND IT'S DONE! NOW EVERYTHING IS GONNA WORK FINE!!

Just upgraded to iOS8.0.1 and had exactly the problem described. I went into Outlook through a browser, disabled my phone and turned off 2 step security and boom... It worked just like you said. MICROSOFT - you need to fix the bug!!!

Are you having the exact concern like TomWKeane? If yes, please provide us the exact error message you get when you encountered this issue. I also suggest that you re-configure your account on your mobile device just to ensure that there are no misconfigurations that might be contributing to this issue. I recently got the iphone5 S and tried to set up my outlook account I also received the error Unable to verify account information".
I followed the removal of my phone number and the 2 steps security from outlook settings and now my mail works fine with the new phone.
It all falls into place now that my outlook settings on my old phone an iphone 4 stopped working when I set up the 2 step security in outlook. I just couldn’t be bothered to sort it out.
Interestingly I couldn’t set up my outlook account to Mozilla Thunderbird either but that now works too.
The reason I set up the 2 step security was that I couldn’t receive email in outlook because someone was using my outlook account. I changed the password and with the 2 step security that worked fine.
The question is now do I just leave everything as it is.
