Hello -

When I attempt to add my outlook.com email account to any iOS device I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information".

I see this problem on my iPhone 4s and iPad and all devices are running iOS5.01 with no additional updates available.

I followed these steps to setup my account

-settings, add new mail account

-selected Hotmail

-entered my outlook.com address (full SMTP address - eg ******@outlook.com) and my password

-after several seconds I recieve the error "Unable to verify account information"

Power cycling the devices doesn't help.  Everything works fine from the web.

Any ideas?

sign in to what account on the web browser?

Just upgraded to iOS8.0.1 and had exactly the problem described. I went into Outlook through a browser, disabled my phone and turned off 2 step security and boom... It worked just like you said. MICROSOFT - you need to fix the bug!!!

I'm having the same issue, and nothing I've tried seems to fix it. I can't seem to get the account setup to work for Outlook.com on my Iphone 5C. To answer your questions:

    • I am not trying to configure a Microsoft Exchange account, just a regular Microsoft Account.
    • I am able to access Outlook.com via a web browser just fine on my phone.
    • I've only got one mobile device, so no, I haven't tried it on another device.
    • I haven't made any changes to my account.
    • I don't know whether I have enabled two-step verification. I don't see a link associated with the article you listed.

Thanks for any help. This has been extremely frustrating.

    Hi Guys,

You can fix this issue by getting a security key for the app you are using , go to your security section in your setting and get a password for an app and then on your phone, ipad or any device other than your laptop you have to use the password that Microsoft gave you not the one that you use to login to your account online on your laptop however your password will be same for online login it will only be different on your devices.
