Outlook.com sent items show sender not recipient - how can I change the display setting

When viewing sent items on outlook.com the items are displayed in a list with the sender name (my name) showing - rather than a list of the recipients. How can I change it to show the recipients. Currently to remember who an email was sent to I have to open it.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Lanie, a Senior Support Analyst for Microsoft and I am part of Hotmail/Outlook.com Support Escalations Team investigating this case.

We would like to apologize for the delayed response and for the inconvenience that the issue has caused you.

You have reported that your name appears in the recipient’s column instead of the email recipient’s name/address when viewing your sent items using a web browser.

Here are the reasons why this is happening:

  1. If you are using an email client such as Windows Live Mail or Outlook client when sending an email.
  2. If you are importing emails from a third party email account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo! mail etc.) to your Hotmail/Outlook.com account using TrueSwitch or POP settings, emails from the sent items folder will show your name in recipient’s column.

We understand that you don't want this behavior and you want everything to be synchronized like showing email recipients name in the sent items folder instead of your names when using a web browser. This behavior of Hotmail/Outlook.com is by design. But, we will be taking this concern as a feature request. We appreciate your feedback regarding our product.

    If this is your issue if may I ask, have you tried the recommendation of the previous moderator of this thread? If not please do so and let us informed if the issue still persists.

    Hi Michael,

    Thanks for replying to our thread, but none of the suggestions so far have helped.

    Unlike GMail / AOL / GMX / Yahoo or other webmail providers, Microsoft's various offerings (Hotmail, Live or Outlook) refuse to display the recipients' names for messages sent from other accounts. This makes it extremely difficult - or impossible, for Robert!

    • for us to migrate over to Microsoft.

    I have been waiting for months for some sort of answer - please sort it out! :)

    Oh my god.. why did Microsoft this..? GMail stopps its EAS support - and Microsoft is not willing to implement such an important thing?! Is there a reason why the did this?

    All,

    In order to display the recipients email address and not yours in the inbox or sent folders in outlook 2010, please follow these steps:

    1. Select inbox or sent
    2. Select "View" <-- Top right of the screen
    3. Select "Add Columns" <-- Middle right of the screen, right below "Reverse Sort"
    4. Now you see "Available Columns" and "Show these columns in this order"
    5. Under "Show these columns in this order," move up the "to" field to the top and remove the "from" field back to "available columns. If the "to" field is no listed in the "show these columns in this order" list, make sure to add it to the list.
    6. Click Ok and your done!
