Outlook.com sent items show sender not recipient - how can I change the display setting

When viewing sent items on outlook.com the items are displayed in a list with the sender name (my name) showing - rather than a list of the recipients. How can I change it to show the recipients. Currently to remember who an email was sent to I have to open it.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Lanie, a Senior Support Analyst for Microsoft and I am part of Hotmail/Outlook.com Support Escalations Team investigating this case.

We would like to apologize for the delayed response and for the inconvenience that the issue has caused you.

You have reported that your name appears in the recipient’s column instead of the email recipient’s name/address when viewing your sent items using a web browser.

Here are the reasons why this is happening:

  1. If you are using an email client such as Windows Live Mail or Outlook client when sending an email.
  2. If you are importing emails from a third party email account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo! mail etc.) to your Hotmail/Outlook.com account using TrueSwitch or POP settings, emails from the sent items folder will show your name in recipient’s column.

We understand that you don't want this behavior and you want everything to be synchronized like showing email recipients name in the sent items folder instead of your names when using a web browser. This behavior of Hotmail/Outlook.com is by design. But, we will be taking this concern as a feature request. We appreciate your feedback regarding our product.

    Make sure you're not using the Conversation view.  Options>More mail settings>Group by conversation and pre-load messages>Show messages individually>Save.

    Yes both radio buttons show messages individually & pre-load messages were previously selected.

    as such, this does not alter the visual problem of the recepient's name in the Sent Folder is changed to the sender's name (me) when I file the message in a different folder.

    Just for the record, I have given up with Microsoft. I have sold my Windows Phone (both Lumias 800 and 820) and surrendered to another provider. Gradually, I expect my hardware and other software will follow.

    I don't expect miracles from tech companies, just a reasonable level of service. I would gladly pay for a decent webmail service which respected my privacy and allowed me to sync calendar, contacts and mail across devices.

    Unfortunately, Hotmail / Live / Outlook is not that service. I have wasted too much time waiting for the promised improvements, and I imagine that - over the coming months - Microsoft will play a diminishing role in my electronic life. So long, Microsoft!

    Good Morning.

    I agree that MS will probably not address- or address in any meaningful time frame- but I guess you have to try.

    Also -and I think this is important- your issue with Hotmail Connector and it's use with Outlook.com and my issue with imported email from GMAIL into Outlook.com may have similar root causes but they are not the same.  I've never used Hotmail connector and googling it shows me that it is an application associated with Outlook (the program) not Outlook.com (the internet based email service).

    I'll hope for the best for my issue and good luck with your problem as well.

    Hi Jay Verm, as per my previous post I’ve the same problem….

    I’ve just sent an email using my Vodafone account and the problem remains the same when I move the sent message from sent folder in the Vodafone server to the sent folder in outlook.com using Outlook Hotmail Connector.

    As Abdias Ruiz [MSFT] replied on April 10, 2013, this is indeed a limitation of the Outlook Hotmail Connector… if you then follow the link he posted, you will see”There are no plans to update the Outlook Hotmail Connector. However, Outlook 2013 supports Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) accounts and therefore does not experience this issue”.

    We keep getting nice replies and promises:

    “We are going to follow up with the Hotmail folks internally and ensure they're aware of how this issue explicitly affects those that are importing mail from other web clients.”

    “Please be informed that your issue has already been escalated to our escalations team. Kindly please wait for any updates regarding this.”

    But, if they didn’t resolve it in 8 months that’s because they really don’t want to.
