Outlook.com sent items show sender not recipient - how can I change the display setting

When viewing sent items on outlook.com the items are displayed in a list with the sender name (my name) showing - rather than a list of the recipients. How can I change it to show the recipients. Currently to remember who an email was sent to I have to open it.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Lanie, a Senior Support Analyst for Microsoft and I am part of Hotmail/Outlook.com Support Escalations Team investigating this case.

We would like to apologize for the delayed response and for the inconvenience that the issue has caused you.

You have reported that your name appears in the recipient’s column instead of the email recipient’s name/address when viewing your sent items using a web browser.

Here are the reasons why this is happening:

  1. If you are using an email client such as Windows Live Mail or Outlook client when sending an email.
  2. If you are importing emails from a third party email account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo! mail etc.) to your Hotmail/Outlook.com account using TrueSwitch or POP settings, emails from the sent items folder will show your name in recipient’s column.

We understand that you don't want this behavior and you want everything to be synchronized like showing email recipients name in the sent items folder instead of your names when using a web browser. This behavior of Hotmail/Outlook.com is by design. But, we will be taking this concern as a feature request. We appreciate your feedback regarding our product.

    Just to confirm what Jay Verm has said - the issue we're discussing in this thread has nothing to do with the Outlook Hotmail Connector, it's entirely related to the outlook.com website and messages in the Sent folder not displaying correctly when imported from another webmail service (Gmail) :)

    According to what it's written in the topic, it has to do with "Outlook.com sent items show sender not recipient".

    In order to have an email in outlook.com sent items folder, you either (1) imported the email from another service or (2) you sent it using your outlook.com account:

    (1) If it was imported, it could have been imported in several different ways, one of them using MS Outlook 2010 along with Outlook Hotmail Connector... for those (if any) taking care of this problem, it is important to know that the problem persists even if you have imported the email in a different way.

    (2) If it was sent using your outlook.com account, it could have been sent from the webmail service, from an email client like MS Outlook 2010 along with Outlook Hotmail Connector or from your mobile phone.

    Again, the problem persists if you send an email from Outlook 2010 along with Outlook Connector and in this case it was not necessary to import anything... but the end result is exactly the same, i.e. Outlook.com sent items show sender not recipient.

    While writing these lines, just came to my mind to see how my Lumia was showing the messages in the sent items folder. Surprise... they show the recipient.

    So, why outlook.com sent items show sender not recipient (which is wrong) and my windows phone 8 sent items show recipient not sender (which is correct)?

    It's clear (to me, at least) that Microsoft's outlook.com designers couldn't envision anyone wanting to have multiple sent items folders for organizing mail.

    They do show the address to whch I sent my messages, for me.  I can't make them show anything else.  This applies only to the actual Sent folder itself, however, not to any subfoldes of Sent you might create.

    Brian, that is exaclty what the problem is!   That is what one would expect in the sent folder (i.e. it depicts who it was sent to).  Howver when the msg is filed in any other subfolder the recipent to whom the message was sent to is changed to who sent it.  If that is the way it is designed to work then why can't a Sent To field be added (so one can select the addition of this field) when the msg is filed in any other subfolder?
