Microsoft Says Someone Changed My Profile Information

Interesting levels of outrage/fear/conspiracy-theories here. My own additions to the party are the following details: synack.com found a Security vulnerability in Hotmail authentication, circa October 2015, reported it to MrMS, and received a 24K bonus. The security hole was Patched in ~15 days. >>> My Hotmail Inbox received a phishing/fraudulent email from 'Canada Outlook Team' (confirmed later by Support)... several days after i had been inside my MS Account Details and did make a minor change to my Profile info. >>> Two days later, received another phishing email from yet-another fraudulent 'Outlook Team' (currently the message-source details are under Review by MS-Support), which warned me that my Account would expire in 2 days, "unless you click on the link below". Did NOT click any links, of course. Just captured hidden details and opened a SupportTicket with the appropriate MS Support team. *Yes, it can be quite difficult for Users to find a safe/valid link to such Support. NOT MrMS's fault; just a result of the www/WildWildWest that the old DARPA Internet has become, sadly. >>> We can all likely find a grain of truth within each of the previous Posts. Because of the work of 'that guy who had to hide out in Ruskoi-Land' (who i will not name here, out of respect for MrGates), we are all aware that MrMS is indeed between a Rock-and-a-Hard-Set-of-Laws. They are forced to both try to protect their Users' Privacy ( which the realists among us know does not exist on the modern www ), and try to satisfy the 'requests' of the N.S.A./NoSuchAgency folks (who are trying to Protect us all, in their own special ways). This is all NOT MrMS's fault (speak to your elected Congressmen). Hmmm... come to think of it, perhaps the Canadian Outlook Team email was actually an across-the-Border squeaky-legalese genuine email from RedmondInc, which has been forced upon them. >>> In any event, it appears that during the relatively rapid changes made to Microsoft Everything(!) in the last 3 years, MS Server scripts have indeed been "reporting themselves" in our MS Account details. More information is always better when it comes to tracking our Account details. >>> Yes, it can worry many folks. Best advice: have "several" Backup-Plan email Accounts up and running "at all times"... and have all of your Important Contacts informed of those email Accounts "by a phone call". >>> OK, let's hear from the troops out there, who are still following this oooold post...

These IPs belong all to "Microsoft bingbot" Address-range.

It's lovely to see them now hunting also in other countries. This info does not go to Bing Search - it goes to US Govt 'Statistical Purposes', that's listed elsewhere and the level of using it is pretty free. Terrorists of today there in CIA, Mossad & co are needing work. You are wanted again, this time not by Uncle Sam, mostly by your 'voted ones' and their owners.

MS is (sadly so) forced to do these - as is Google on their side. Welcome to today. Where did you want to go today .... :)

Hello guys. It's a rather old thread but apparently Microsoft has not done anything to fix their internal issues. I received exactly the same notification on January 17, 2015. Scenario is exactly the same and it points to IP 65.55.52.8 (six five . five five . five two . eight).

I was skimming through the responses in this thread from the beginning and I was laughing at Microsoft's responses. It's just unbelievable how all of the Microsoft guys who responded can be so clueless and not understand what everything is trying to explain.

These erroneous emails (and false entry in the profile activity history) really make you feel uncertain about your Microsoft account security... And especially their inability to acknowledge that they indeed experienced problems and that it would be fixed soon. No reassurance...
