Goodbye 2014, hello 2015! And hello again; this old thread! You've grown to 15 pages I see. Impressive.
Anyway; Unfortunately this issue has reared its ugly head once more.
This is the first "Me too." post in months. I'm hoping I'm not alone. I have received the above screenshotted email 10 times now, following its instructions resulted in no improvement.
I'm sure the Google / Microsoft rivalry is really important and both parties want to keep it going behind the scenes, but unfortunately it is the users who are loyal to both companies that get the bad experience and second hand treatment. I use Outlook on
my phone and Gmail everywhere else. But they are both equally important to me. Syncing them is of paramount importance.
I'm sure Google is making Microsoft jump through unnecessary hoops masqueraded as improved security. But since they provided no fallback or backwards compatibility, they achieved the opposite of the desired effect. We have to lower our security to keep using
Outlook, and by god we are not going to quit Outlook over a minor inconvenience like this. so; by letting outdated and unsecure apps log in, which in turn enables hackers easier access to us, Google shot itself in the security foot. More and more users are
forced into dropping their increased security in exchange for convenience and sync. Heightened security should remain convenient.
I'm also sure Google has good reasons to do this, much more than just rivalry or revenge for something Microsoft did to Google who knows when. Top notch security after all, is not just an excuse to fvck with Microsoft's apps and users, but a valid
requirement as well.
So please just accept their demands and implement Oauth 2.0 properly. Let there be peace between the two giants, or the earth will shake under their trampling feet and it's always the little people under them who will feel the worst of their blows.
