someone DOES have the same hotmail email address as me, this is a security issue

hi, someone definitely has the same Hotmail email address as me. I have had this address for years. then a few months ago I started receiving information from ebay that was meant for this person. I contacted ebay and they asked this person to change her email which she must of done because I do not receive mail from ebay that's is not intended for me now.  yesterday I received a email from a energy company with this persons name and and energy account  number. I am worried she may be receiving my emails and this may be a security issue? what should I do please.?

    sorry. I wanted to send the message to the guy, who said that's impossible.

    Obviously that is very possible to have same email address for multiple guys.

    I just deleted the other persons Facebook account because he won't do anything

    I read through the earlier replies and didn't see anyone claim it was impossible, but I would come close :-)

    Have you checked: https://account.live.com/Activity to see if there is any suspicious activity?

    If I know your email address and find out your password one way or another then I can say that we both have the same email account - we would both have access to it.

    You can go further... in your account settings turn on two-step verification and change your password. A hacker would have a much more difficult job breaking into your account.

    Of course, none of these steps would stop other people sending you email.

    This is not someone who hacked my email. The person have the same name and coincidentally using the same email address and Microsoft let him do that. He's not harassing or doing anything bad. simply he using the same email address for his banking, Facebook etc.

     Since you come so close...how is changing my password will do anything?

    Attila, I may have misunderstood you.

    Is the other person telling people (including his bank) his email address but giving them your email address by mistake? Many organisations would then send a confirmation email to ensure that it was correct before using it further, but I am sure not all do.

    On the other hand, does he give you any reason to think he has access to your account - sending emails from your account for example?

    Morning John

    Believe me.  If you would talk to the other person,  he would say that I am the one who got his email address. He lives in Hungary, I am living in Canada. Somewhere someone made a mistake and allowed him to have the same email address. That simple.  I'm getting his email and his getting mine I'm sure. Only thing that I have this email address for a long time , and this started to happen about 2 or 3 years ago. 

    Try to think of this case as not someone broken into somebody else's email address and doing evil things.  No simply we actually have the same email address.
