Original Title: How do I turn on vacation notifcation auto reply NOW

I need to turn on the auto-reply vacation opotion NOW, not wait until I have been using it for a few days as I'm asked to do or put a mobile phone number in which I will not do. I can find no way of doing this.

(And of course - I want my old hotmail back not this rubbishy replacement)

Hello DhammagitaDhi,

Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. Allow me to assist you on how you can setup the Automatic vacation reply on your Microsoft account. Please be informed that all Hotmail users will be upgraded to Outlook.com and plans were shared when Outlook.com preview was launched. To ensure a smooth transition for all Hotmail customers, the upgrade will be gradual. This is the start of that upgrade process. Please refer to the steps below on how to do this.

  1. Sign in to Outlook.com.
  2. Click the gear icon on the upper right corner beside your name.
  3. Select More mail settings.
  4. Under Managing your account click Sending automated vacation replies.
  5. Enter the message you'd like to send while you're away.
  6. Click Save.

In addition, note that there's some features that might be turned off for newly created Microsoft accounts.

  • Sending automated vacation replies (auto reply option)
  • Email signature
  • POP aggregation (send Hotmail email with any email address)
  • Forwarding email
  • Reply-To address (receive replies to Hotmail email at a different email address)
  • Send-As address (send email in Hotmail from other email addresses)

Let us know the results after performing the above actions.

Actually, I am. I have been since 1999. I even PAY for this, though I am not sure why. Unlike some people who flippantly assert that they will leave Outlook I have too much invested to do so easily. However, given that I pay for this, and have for years, the one time I need some help this experience has been abysmal, in fact, since I posted in June this is the first time I have seen this thread attended by a moderator/experienced activity.

i don't understand why it is so hard for you guys to understand that something somewhere has gone wrong for long time, experienced users of Outlook/Hotmail, and rather than give replies that suggest I am crazy, I would have appreciated this actually being given some attention or getting resolved.

I I followed your instructions yesterday in the hopes that something had changed since the last time I clicked on the gear icon, but it had not. Automated vacation replies are simply not an option. I use Outlook in Chrome. I'm not crazy nor am I an idiot. I have had email since 1986 on darpanet and in face bug tested some of the earliest GUI based mail clients. I travel a lot, and my work around is to use the vacation reply from a forwarded email address. At least I have a workaround, it sounds like a lot of people in this thread simply gave up in despair.

if you have the power to get someone to truly take a look at this, I would appreciate it. If not I will go ahead and unsubscribe from this thread.
