When trying to add my old Hotmail alias to my Outlook account, I get this message: "This email address is part of a reserved domain such as live.com, hotmail.com, or msn.com. Please enter a different email address."

How can I add my Hotmail account to my Outlook?

Hi,

As I understand you want to accounts to share one mailbox. Let me assist you on this.

If you have two Outlook.com accounts, you can’t add this as an alias for the other since they are already Microsoft account.

If your third party account was already registered as Microsoft account, you cannot also add this as alias. You can only add an existing email address as an alias if it is not yet registered as Microsoft account.

If you want to manage several accounts in one mailbox, you can use mail client like Windows Live Mail. You can also use Outlook.com to send and receive emails from other account that uses POP.     so how can i retrieve my hotmail account as i am unable to send and receive email and not even able to login with that ID..

    Hi M.OmarMuftakhar,

    Welcome back to Microsoft Community.

    Just to clarify your statement dated July 17, 2014, on what account you are unable to log in, is it when using your Gmail (current primary alias) or when using your @hotmail.com account?

    Also, to answer your question, since you have added your Gmail as your alias and made it as your primary alias, it is by default that the only function of that email account is to Send. Your Gmail account is considered as an EASI account. EASI account or Email As Sign In accounts are third party accounts that are pre-made before using to Outlook.com or other Microsoft services. That means that it has it's own mailbox. Emails sent to that account is still receive on the main inbox (in your case, still in Gmail.com).

    To be able to make that account as a Send and Receive account, you need to have or to add an Outlook.com account as alias again then make the Outlook.com account as your primary account. With this you will have an active mailbox.

    Hi M.OmarMuftakhar,

    Based on the description of your issue, it appears that the Hotmail ID was deleted as an alias account. On this case, you can recreate it after 30 days as a stand alone email or an alias address.

    EASI accounts are designed to have a send only feature when it is registered on Outlook.com domain. If you want to receive emails from an EASI account (Gmail), we have to configure it as send and receive. You may refer to this **link** for instructions.
