When trying to add my old Hotmail alias to my Outlook account, I get this message: "This email address is part of a reserved domain such as live.com, hotmail.com, or msn.com. Please enter a different email address."

How can I add my Hotmail account to my Outlook?

Hi,

As I understand you want to accounts to share one mailbox. Let me assist you on this.

If you have two Outlook.com accounts, you can’t add this as an alias for the other since they are already Microsoft account.

If your third party account was already registered as Microsoft account, you cannot also add this as alias. You can only add an existing email address as an alias if it is not yet registered as Microsoft account.

If you want to manage several accounts in one mailbox, you can use mail client like Windows Live Mail. You can also use Outlook.com to send and receive emails from other account that uses POP.     Hi Macmellus,

    Thanks for getting back to us regarding your issue. In addition to what my previous colleague said above, upon creating an alias it will notify you if you would like to create an inbox or not. This explain the possibilities on why you can't see inbox of your alias from your primary account, you didn't create an inbox that will share it from your primary account.

    Sorry, but that doesn't answer my question at all. I'm not sure you've actually read this thread properly.

    The question is;

    Why the rule that I can't add an existing microsoft account as an alias?

    Hi Macmellus,

    I understand that you wanted to add an alias account, let me help you with your concern

    Please be informed that "Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias" informs you to add a non-Microsoft account. Do kindly use a diffrent account, so that system will allow to add an alias account.

    Well it still doesn't make any sense to me. Third party accounts all have inboxes as well, don't they?

    Regarding what you say about email forwarding, This is exactly why it's no good for me and why I'm wanting my other addresses as aliases.
