When trying to add my old Hotmail alias to my Outlook account, I get this message: "This email address is part of a reserved domain such as live.com, hotmail.com, or msn.com. Please enter a different email address."

How can I add my Hotmail account to my Outlook?

Hi,

As I understand you want to accounts to share one mailbox. Let me assist you on this.

If you have two Outlook.com accounts, you can’t add this as an alias for the other since they are already Microsoft account.

If your third party account was already registered as Microsoft account, you cannot also add this as alias. You can only add an existing email address as an alias if it is not yet registered as Microsoft account.

If you want to manage several accounts in one mailbox, you can use mail client like Windows Live Mail. You can also use Outlook.com to send and receive emails from other account that uses POP.     Hi,

    I'm happy to assist you with your concern regarding adding an existing email address as Microsoft alias.

    Please be informed that you can only add an existing email address as an alias if it is not a Microsoft account.

    Example: Google and Yahoo.

    You cannot also add a custom domain that registered in Windows Live Admin Center.

    Okay. What is the reason for this? I would imagine that it's not an impossibility, but a ruling. It's extremely inconvenient. I was particularly happy with the linked accounts. Now it's going to be a real pain signing in and out every time. Sorry to moan, but I just don't get it.

    Hi Macmellus,

    Microsoft is discontinuing the linked account because of account safety reasons. Accounts that are linked together aren't safe if one of those account was hacked.

    I know all this.

    You're still not telling me why I can't have an existing microsoft account as an alias.

    It doesn't make sense to say that if one account is hacked then the others are at risk. If I only use one account and that's hacked then I'm scuppered anyway.
