When trying to add my old Hotmail alias to my Outlook account, I get this message: "This email address is part of a reserved domain such as live.com, hotmail.com, or msn.com. Please enter a different email address."

How can I add my Hotmail account to my Outlook?

Hi,

As I understand you want to accounts to share one mailbox. Let me assist you on this.

If you have two Outlook.com accounts, you can’t add this as an alias for the other since they are already Microsoft account.

If your third party account was already registered as Microsoft account, you cannot also add this as alias. You can only add an existing email address as an alias if it is not yet registered as Microsoft account.

If you want to manage several accounts in one mailbox, you can use mail client like Windows Live Mail. You can also use Outlook.com to send and receive emails from other account that uses POP.     I Agree with Macmellus.. 

    One should be able to merge existing Microsoft accounts into one. Not linking, but merging, deleting one account. 

    I have an old Yahoo/rocketmail account that i registered on my Win8.1 and all my Microsoft stuff. Recently i created a hotmail account, but now i cannot use that one to access my windows (and thus port everything to a microsoft-orientated account) because of this silly limitation.

    Hello,

    Welcome to the forum. I understand that you wanted to setup your old Hotmail account as an alias to your Outlook.com account. I apologize but you cannot set up an active Microsoft account as an alias of another account, but we can set up an inactive Microsoft account as an alias of another account.

    An active account becomes inactive when it hasn’t been used for 365 days, then one will have to wait for additional 90 days so that the alias can be reserved again, hence wait time become 365 days or one year. After this period of time the Microsoft account will be available and can be set up as an alias. But one may not carry forward any data associated with the alias into the new Microsoft account.

    but now I am using an @live.in email.

    I want to add the @live.com email to my @live.in account as an alias. Can I do that?

    If I won't sign in to my @live.com account for 365 days will it become inactive?
