When trying to add my old Hotmail alias to my Outlook account, I get this message: "This email address is part of a reserved domain such as live.com, hotmail.com, or msn.com. Please enter a different email address."

How can I add my Hotmail account to my Outlook?

Hi,

As I understand you want to accounts to share one mailbox. Let me assist you on this.

If you have two Outlook.com accounts, you can’t add this as an alias for the other since they are already Microsoft account.

If your third party account was already registered as Microsoft account, you cannot also add this as alias. You can only add an existing email address as an alias if it is not yet registered as Microsoft account.

If you want to manage several accounts in one mailbox, you can use mail client like Windows Live Mail. You can also use Outlook.com to send and receive emails from other account that uses POP.     Inactive Microsoft Accounts are deleted if you do not log it in on any online Microsoft services for at least 1 year. That may be the reason as to why you are not able to sign in your old @live.com account anymore.

    Also, Microsoft had made several changes to emails. From "Windows Live ID" to "Hotmail" and now, "Outlook". Windows Live IDs (@live.com) are no longer in use after this transition, so you cannot sign up an account ending in @live.com anymore. You can only choose between @hotmail.com or @outlook.com.

    when i sign in with my old account @live.com, its say that my old account doesn’t exist. but when im sign up new account with the same name, then its say that “This email is part of a reserved domain. Please enter a different email address.” What happen? what should i do? :‘( please help me.

    Hey there, everyone

    Welcome to the Microsoft community forums

    If you are having problems with your Microsoft email account, I would advise filling out a Microsoft Secure eform. This way the Outlook Moderators are able to look into your account, and sot you all out, privately. Because of the nature of this problem, and the level of Personal Information needed, it is not best to have such topics on these forums, as they are public.

    it seems as though that microsoft has taken my other email address and totally removed it from their system.  tried logging in and comes back with error message that email address does not exist.  

    well it existed before microsoft and their dumbed down mentally pulled the stunt that they did.  really intelligent, but that is bill gates for ya.
