"Silent" Notification Doesn't Work On Outlook.com Android App

Thank you for getting back to us. Since the option to turn the sounds off on Outlook.com app does not work, then there is a possibility that the Outlook.com app itself is causing this issue. It might be that the Outlook.com app is faulty.

 

Now, we recommend that you uninstall the Outlook.com app and download the latest version of it from the Play store. Once done, we recommend that you turn the email notification sound off by following the steps below:

 

1.       Open the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

2.       Tap on the Menu option.

3.       Tap on Settings.

4.       Choose General.

5.       Choose notifications.

6.       Click on email notifications and then make sure that the box is unchecked.

7.       Tap on Audio Notification.

8.       When you get into your notification, choose the "silent" button.

This actually is correct. The part that I was lost about is the “window” that is after email notifications is audio notifications. Audio notifications looks like a title, not an option to make choices in. Under those words are actual choices but it is not at all intuitive to press the actual words audio notification. Once you do that, you select silent from your normal Android choices. I would highlight the box more Microsoft. Thank you.

Works just fine, but I never would have guessed that in a million years (and seems like lots of users didn't as well). The "Audio Notification" looks like a header and not a clickable option.

I'm an experienced user of tons of software and applications for the past 30 years and I have to admit that MS's UIs have taken a turn for the worse.

I see that Microsoft keeps giving the same instructions despite the fact that we've all tried to click the check box that turns off notifications.  

Let me make this clear:  telling Outlook to not send audible notifications does NOT stop Outlook from sending audible notifications.

This is a glitch that needs to be fixed.
