"Silent" Notification Doesn't Work On Outlook.com Android App

Downloaded and configured the Outlook.com app for my HTC One and it will play any audible notification that I select except for "Silent".

settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Audio Notification

If I do select "Silent", it still plays an audible tone - a tone unique to the application. It doesn't sound like any other selectable tone.

Even if I uncheck notifications, the tone still plays.

I really like the application, but I can't use it if it refuses to be silent on each new email :)

Hi LMFPeach and FlipmodeMF,

Thank you for getting back to us. Since the option to turn the sounds off on Outlook.com app does not work, then there is a possibility that the Outlook.com app itself is causing this issue. It might be that the Outlook.com app is faulty.

Now, we recommend that you uninstall the Outlook.com app and download the latest version of it from the Play store. Once done, we recommend that you turn the email notification sound off by following the steps below:

1.       Open the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

2.       Tap on the Menu option.

3.       Tap on Settings.

4.       Choose General.

5.       Choose notifications.

6.       Click on email notifications and then make sure that the box is unchecked.

7.       Tap on Audio Notification.

8.       When you get into your notification, choose the "silent" button.

    I understand that you want to remove spam or adds appearing on your Outlook.com and to turn off email notifications sound. Let me assist you with this.

    For troubleshooting purposes, please try uninstalling the application that you're using and then download and re-install a new one. It's possible that the application that you got is faulty. We are making this troubleshooting for us to be able to determine if the application itself is the cause of the issue or not.

    If you are still seeing the adds that you are referring to, please provide us a screenshot of your Outlook.com app showing those adds in the private message area for further investigation. You may refer to the private message area or you need to click the notification that states “You have a private reply to this message. Click here to read it on our secure private messages section.", be sure that you are signed in to view my message.

    As for your concern about turning off of email notification sounds, please refer to the steps provided by my colleague Johayber T. on the first page of this thread. If you are still encountering this issue after following the steps above, please let us know.

    Would it have killed you guys to put some sort of visual cue that "Audio Notification" was a modifiable option and not merely the name of the sub-menu?

    The only way anybody would know how to get to the "silent" button is if they accidentally brushed the "Audio Notification" button. That's some pretty terrible UI design.

    I agree.  What worries me is that nobody from Microsoft has acknowledged that this is a design flaw in the UI (it must be, if people aren't discovering it for themselves).

    I think it would be great if a Microsoft person let us know that they acknowledge the problem and have put a change request in to the development team.

    Is there a way at this point to disable audio notifications for outlook android app?

    EDIT: Found it actually! Just clicked Silent option
