"Silent" Notification Doesn't Work On Outlook.com Android App

Downloaded and configured the Outlook.com app for my HTC One and it will play any audible notification that I select except for "Silent".

settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Audio Notification

If I do select "Silent", it still plays an audible tone - a tone unique to the application. It doesn't sound like any other selectable tone.

Even if I uncheck notifications, the tone still plays.

I really like the application, but I can't use it if it refuses to be silent on each new email :)

Hi LMFPeach and FlipmodeMF,

Thank you for getting back to us. Since the option to turn the sounds off on Outlook.com app does not work, then there is a possibility that the Outlook.com app itself is causing this issue. It might be that the Outlook.com app is faulty.

Now, we recommend that you uninstall the Outlook.com app and download the latest version of it from the Play store. Once done, we recommend that you turn the email notification sound off by following the steps below:

1.       Open the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

2.       Tap on the Menu option.

3.       Tap on Settings.

4.       Choose General.

5.       Choose notifications.

6.       Click on email notifications and then make sure that the box is unchecked.

7.       Tap on Audio Notification.

8.       When you get into your notification, choose the "silent" button.

Let us know how things turn out. Feel free to post back if you have further questions.

Regards,

Johayber T.

    Hi Luke,

We understand your frustration regarding this issue. Since the issue persists even if you've uninstalled and reinstalled the Outlook.com app for Android and followed the steps given by Johayber T. to disable the app's audio notification, we would like you to provide your Outlook.com app's mobile logs for investigation purposes by following these steps:

    1. Start the Outlook.com app.
    2. In the message list view, click the "..." in the bottom right of the screen.
    3. Tap the "Settings" option.
    4. Tap the "General" option at the top.
    5. Scroll down and tap the "Support tools" option.
    6. Tap "Log level" and choose "Fine trace".
    7. Delete/remove the account and sign back in.
    8. Go back to support tools.
    9. Tap the "Send logs" option
    10. Email the logs to an accessible email address.
    11. Log in to that email address using a computer and download the attachment.

Once you have followed the instructions above, please provide us the affected email address and the logs in the private message area. To view it, just click on the "You have a private reply to this message" link above your post and make sure that you are signed in to the forum to view the link.

We highly appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

    Thank you.

Luke.Saunders: Yes, the problem has been resolved.

    You wrote this:

The two check boxes (Message Notification & Vibrate) under settings>Account settings>General> Notifications>Email notifications>Audio Notification, do nothing.

Audio Notification is not a page heading, it's actually a button!  (Very bad UI design mistake.)  Press it, and you will be given a list of alert sounds.  Choose Silent.

In other words, the software itself is working but the bad UI design on that page has caused endless confusion.  Microsoft really needs to fix this.

Karla, thank you for your reply. I fixed the issue - I don't use Outlook any more.

    Cheers

Karla - you are chasing off down the wrong route.  Read Luke's post: he clearly has not realised that the 'Audio Notification' heading is not just a page heading, it is actually a button.

I repeat: this problem is resolved.

The problem is not with the alerts, it's with the incredibly confusing UI on that page that says 'Audio Notification' at the top.

If you press that 'Audio Notification' heading - which is actually a button - and then select 'Silent', the incoming email alerts stop.
