"Silent" Notification Doesn't Work On Outlook.com Android App

Downloaded and configured the Outlook.com app for my HTC One and it will play any audible notification that I select except for "Silent".

settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Audio Notification

If I do select "Silent", it still plays an audible tone - a tone unique to the application. It doesn't sound like any other selectable tone.

Even if I uncheck notifications, the tone still plays.

I really like the application, but I can't use it if it refuses to be silent on each new email :)

Hi LMFPeach and FlipmodeMF,

Thank you for getting back to us. Since the option to turn the sounds off on Outlook.com app does not work, then there is a possibility that the Outlook.com app itself is causing this issue. It might be that the Outlook.com app is faulty.

Now, we recommend that you uninstall the Outlook.com app and download the latest version of it from the Play store. Once done, we recommend that you turn the email notification sound off by following the steps below:

1.       Open the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

2.       Tap on the Menu option.

3.       Tap on Settings.

4.       Choose General.

5.       Choose notifications.

6.       Click on email notifications and then make sure that the box is unchecked.

7.       Tap on Audio Notification.

8.       When you get into your notification, choose the "silent" button.

    Hello! I have the same problem.

    I am running Android 4.1.2 on a Galaxy Samsung S 2.

    Global phone settings for notifications are set to silent. All Notification settings for the Outlook e-mail on my phone disabled. The app continues to play the 'postman' sound every time I receive an e-mail. ONLY happens with outlook exchange e-mail. Doesn't happen with G-mail or text messages that I receive.

    I have tried changing the sound, and the same 'postman' sound continues to play.

    It seems that many other users are having the same issue.

    As an initial troubleshooting step, please try to uninstall and then reinstall the Outlook.com app on your mobile device as what my colleague Levi_I mentioned above. There might be some corrupted files that are causing the problem to happen.

    If you are still encountering this issue, please provide the following information in the private message area for further investigation.

    • Affected email address
    • Does the same issue happen if you use another account on your device?
    • What is the device make/model and version of operating system? (only for MikeWatrous)
    • Exact steps that you did in changing your Sound settings.

    I have the same issue on my new HTC one.  If I change the ringtone to any other besides Silent, it does update the email notice chime.  If I pick Silent, it chimes using the default Android notification chime.

    I did not have this issue with my Samsung Galaxy II, with same app settings. Both versions of hardware were on same versions of android: 4.1.2.

    The notification has been a problem for me as well.  I finally found that although the Message Notification unchecked does not work, I chose to play the Audio Notification selection "Silent" which makes no noise when it goes off.

    This is the only app I have that I can not stop the notification sound.
