"Silent" Notification Doesn't Work On Outlook.com Android App

Downloaded and configured the Outlook.com app for my HTC One and it will play any audible notification that I select except for "Silent".

settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Audio Notification

If I do select "Silent", it still plays an audible tone - a tone unique to the application. It doesn't sound like any other selectable tone.

Even if I uncheck notifications, the tone still plays.

I really like the application, but I can't use it if it refuses to be silent on each new email :)

Hi LMFPeach and FlipmodeMF,

Thank you for getting back to us. Since the option to turn the sounds off on Outlook.com app does not work, then there is a possibility that the Outlook.com app itself is causing this issue. It might be that the Outlook.com app is faulty.

Now, we recommend that you uninstall the Outlook.com app and download the latest version of it from the Play store. Once done, we recommend that you turn the email notification sound off by following the steps below:

1.       Open the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

2.       Tap on the Menu option.

3.       Tap on Settings.

4.       Choose General.

5.       Choose notifications.

6.       Click on email notifications and then make sure that the box is unchecked.

7.       Tap on Audio Notification.

8.       When you get into your notification, choose the "silent" button.

    Putting the device in silent mode is not an option since I'm often on call for work.  It'd be nice if the app simply let a person turn off notifications: this is the only app I've ever had that doesn't allow one to do so.  This may be what finally moves me over to gmail.

    Yes, I've done that already.  The message notification box is unchecked and yet I still get a sound notification for every new email.

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    We understand you're also having issue with the notification sound of your Outlook app. There's no option to silent the email notification on Outlook.com app. The option available is to disable the message notification. Please refer to the steps for your guide:

    1. Open the Outlook.com app on the device.
    2. Click on the ellipses (3 dots) on the lower page.
    3. Select Notifications and uncheck the option Message notification.

    In addition, you can put the mobile device to silent mode so you can't hear the sound notification when there's new email. However, this will put other apps in silent as well.

    I have the same problem and have tried every suggestion in this thread to solve it.  None have worked so far.  Apparently the Outlook.com app doesn't like to play nice with a Droid phone. 

    I've been thinking about switching to gmail and this may be what finally makes that happen.
