"Silent" Notification Doesn't Work On Outlook.com Android App

Downloaded and configured the Outlook.com app for my HTC One and it will play any audible notification that I select except for "Silent".

settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Audio Notification

If I do select "Silent", it still plays an audible tone - a tone unique to the application. It doesn't sound like any other selectable tone.

Even if I uncheck notifications, the tone still plays.

I really like the application, but I can't use it if it refuses to be silent on each new email :)

Hi LMFPeach and FlipmodeMF,

Thank you for getting back to us. Since the option to turn the sounds off on Outlook.com app does not work, then there is a possibility that the Outlook.com app itself is causing this issue. It might be that the Outlook.com app is faulty.

Now, we recommend that you uninstall the Outlook.com app and download the latest version of it from the Play store. Once done, we recommend that you turn the email notification sound off by following the steps below:

1.       Open the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

2.       Tap on the Menu option.

3.       Tap on Settings.

4.       Choose General.

5.       Choose notifications.

6.       Click on email notifications and then make sure that the box is unchecked.

7.       Tap on Audio Notification.

8.       When you get into your notification, choose the "silent" button.

    I have same issue. Wakes me at night when I receive mail. Defect not corrupt data in my opinion. Too many people reporting identical issue.

    I have the same problem. 

    I have found a way to make the app silent, although no notifications show in the status bar either.

    I uninstalled the app. Then, when I was in the process of re-installing it, I unchecked the box for "deliver notifications". So far, the app has been silent. However, when I go to "general settings" and turn on sound, vibration or status bar notifications, nothing changes--It remains silent.

    I would prefer to have it permanently silent with no notifications though, than to have it making that annoying dinging sound!

    As an initial troubleshooting step, please try to uninstall and then reinstall the Outlook.com app on your mobile device as what my colleague Levi_I mentioned above. There might be some corrupted files that are causing the problem to happen.

    • Does the same issue happen if you use another account on your device?
    • What is the device make/model and version of operating system? (only for MikeWatrous)
    • Exact steps that you did in changing your Sound settings.

    The notification has been a problem for me as well.  I finally found that although the Message Notification unchecked does not work, I chose to play the Audio Notification selection "Silent" which makes no noise when it goes off.

    This is the only app I have that I can not stop the notification sound.
