Rename/Merge a Hotmail and a Outlook Account

My mistake on the number of days, is there not going to be a response from the Microsoft service team. Very unfortunate, considering I wanted my new outlook email with my legacy 25 GB skydrive storage for my upgrade to windows 8. I was also considering the new windows 8 phone...and also the surface either pro or rt. But this lack of problem solving...may sway that decision. Also I wonder if there will be a green touch cover for the surface tablet?

Renaming your account causes your sign in name to change from your existing @hotmail.com address to your new email address. Your existing address becomes an alias of your new account so that mail delivery is uninterrupted.  After renaming your account you will sign in with your new account to all services you previously accessed with your old account.

Merging your @hotmail.com account and @outlook.com account is not possible in Hotmail. Instead, you can Auto-forward your Hotmail account to your new Outlook account. You’ll have all of your mail in one place, and can reply to it using your new address.

To auto-forward your email:

1.       Log in to your Hotmail account.

2.       Click Options, then click More options….

3.       Under Managing your account, click Email forwarding. You might have to sign in.

4.       Select the radio button for Forward your mail to another email account.

5.       Enter the email address for your new Outlook account.

6.       If you want, check the box for Keep a copy of forwarded messages in your Hotmail inbox.

7.       Click Save.

Note: Free Hotmail or Outlook.com account users need to log into the account they choose to auto-forward at least once every 270 days to avoid having the system remove the mailbox for inactivity.

If you want to use your **** @outlook.com as a primary account of your @hotmail.com account, refer to my previous steps.

In most cases, as long as you do so within 30 days of the rename, you can change the primary account name to an existing alias. You would need to delete the alias from your account, and it will become immediately available for your use. Then you can proceed to rename your account.

Remove the alias and rename your account back to the original address. Here's how to remove the alias:

1.     Sign in to your primary account.

2.     Click your user name in the upper right.

3.     Click Account settings.

4.     Click Notifications, then click Manage email preferences.

5.     Under Other email addresses, click Remove for the alias you want to remove.

Make sure you rename back to the original address within 30 days of deleting the alias, otherwise the address will become available to anyone.

Note:

• You will not be able to rename an account that has been blocked more than once because someone else was using your account.
• You can rename your account twice every 180 days. If you rename and then undo the rename, the undo doesn't count towards your limit.
• You can't use an alias to sign in to Hotmail—you’ll always need to sign in with your original email address and password.

Does that pertain to my other accounts, I renamed one hotmail account to an outlook. I am now trying to rename my primary to the outlook account I had. I renamed that outlook to a different name, it does not show it as an associate account per your above instructions. It also will not receive email, and the account can not be logged into. So..hypothetically shouldnt the name have cleared out since it was turned into an alias, then deleted? I am unable to rename my primary hotmail account to the desired outlook account, its actually the same name just @outlook.com. Is it because I renamed another account to outlook, and said account is linked to this one, that I am being blocked from renaming my primary to @outlook.com, in the 180 day period, even though it was not that name. So, do I really have to wait 180 days to use my original outlook name, because it was renamed and turned into an alias. then i deleted the alias, and now want to rename a separate account to that deleted alias? Is there some one I can call to discuss this, or perhaps see if the name is merely clearing out of the system or something, it has been months, and only now am i getting some answere on this forum that are close to resolving the problem.

******@outlook.com renamed to ******@outlook.com, new original d@outlook .com becomes an alias, I deleted the folder, now when trying to log into ******@outlook.com, and checking the attached accounts per your instructions, it does not exist. So it is still either alias, or does not exist. However when you send email to ******@outlook.com, it will not receive any mail, does not exist.

So I should be able to take my old d@hotmail, rename it to @outlook.com shouldnt I, since it is not attached to any other account, and is not grabbed by anyone else, evident based on failed delivery messages to that address (@outlook.com). It should be available to use as a rename of my ******@hotmail.com....

Unless because ******@hotmail.com has several accounts linked to it, one of which is O@hotmail and it was successfully renamed to O@outlook. So the above rename should work, unless because one of my linked account was renamed i can not rename within 180 days...? Even though these are two completely separate accounts? If that is the case I need to count outwards from September 20th.

I have gotten the messages before that I have maxed the number of accounts, I only have 4. 5 I believe is the max, but within one of the 4, it has an alias, the old ******@hotmail.com as an alias, does this or any alias count towards the maximum number of accounts?

I am trying to consolodate my accounts into preferably 2 accounts, of which they each will hold 1 alias, the old email addresses. This will eleminate waste and unused accounts for myself, and for you, Microsoft, thats 7 gb each account liberated, all I wish is to rename that old hotmail account to outlook. even though I had created it. I renamed it, deleted it as an alias, waited 30 days for alias release. it now should be available but i can not rename old account to it.

Please provide us the affected email accounts in the private message area so that we can check it on our end. To view it, sign in using a Microsoft account.

Please be informed as well that Hotmail only allows 5 aliases per year which includes adding and removing. Base from this thread, the previous moderator has already informed you that when a user renamed an account, the old email address automatically becomes an alias.  When you deleted the d@outlook .com, it becomes an alias of ******@outlook.com. You stated as well  that you have deleted a folder. For confirmation, was it the folder for d@outlook .com?

Note:

• If you renamed an account, old email address will becomes an alias so in performing the said process, there will be a pop message asking the user if he wants to have an inbox for it.
