Rename/Merge a Hotmail and a Outlook Account

if you click the gear symbol and got to more options there should be a part to rename it not create a new name. its different then what is under the account settings. Mine worked, I just didnt get my old hotmail to be an alias. They are supposed to be looking into it, but I havnt heard anything yet. Its still active, but I cant get to my old account now.

I can't change my hotmail account to an outlook account. when i go to chanhe the name i'm only given hotmail or live.com as options to create a new name.

If you wish to "merge" them, I can think of two methods.

The first method has two parts to the process: the contacts and the messages.  Moving the contacts is actually rather easy.  Log into http://people.live.com/ using the old Microsoft ID, click Manage in the menu bar, and choose Export.  This will create a CSV file you can save to your hard drive.  Log out of the old Microsoft ID and log into http://people.live.com/ using the new one.  Click Manage>Add people>Import from file.  Browse to the CSV file you saved and click "Import contacts".

Moving messages is more difficult, but I think the easiest way is to POP them from the old account using the new account.  Log into http://mail.live.com/ using the new Microsoft ID.  Click the Options gear, then "More mail settings".  Under "Managing your account", click "Sending/receiving email from other accounts".  In the "You can receive mail from these accounts" section, click add an email account, then "Advanced options".  You won't be able to enter yor old Microsoft ID account credentials on the first page because Outlook.com will tell you "It looks like you're trying to add another Outlook account" and suggest that you link the two accounts.  On the "Advanced options" page, enter your old Hotmail address, the server name "pop3.live.com", use port 995 and check SSL, leave a copy on the server, then enter your old Microsoft ID credentials.  Click Next and finish the wizard.  You can set up a rule to move those messages to a separate folder if you wish.

If you have folders other than the Inbox, it will take manual effort to move those folders over. In the old account, create a new, temporary folder and move (not copy) to it everything in your Inbox.  On the new account, do the same, if the old Inbox has been pulled over after what I described in the previous paragraph. Then in the old account, copy the contents of one of the non-Inbox folders to Inbox and allow the new account to pull those messages to its Inbox. When they have arrived, you can move them in the new account to a folder you create that's named the same as the source folder on the old account. Then delete the copy from the old Inbox. Do this step with every non-Inbox folder in the old account. Eventually, you'll have copied all of the old account's messages to the new account. WHen you're done, you can put the messages you saved in the temp folder back to Inbox.

If before setting up the POP access in the new account you move the Inbox to a temp folder on the old account, you can move all the non-Inbox folder contents first, and then finish up with the Inbox of the old account by putting the saved messages back in the Inbox.  Note that I don't know how long this process will take because I don't know how frequently your new account will poll the old one and I don't know how you can initiate the polling.  Send/Receive events don't seem to be controllable.

As far as your calendar goes, I don't know of any way to transfer that, since there is no export/import function that I can see.

The second method would be to install Windows Live Mail and use it to transfer the contents of one account to the other.  This is probably the easier of the two methods and it should allow you to transfer the calendar as well.

Please be informed as well that Hotmail only allows 5 aliases per year which includes adding and removing. Base from this thread, the previous moderator has already informed you that when a user renamed an account, the old email address automatically becomes an alias.  When you deleted the d@outlook .com, it becomes an alias of ******@outlook.com. You stated as well  that you have deleted a folder. For confirmation, was it the folder for d@outlook .com?

Note:

• If you renamed an account, old email address will becomes an alias so in performing the said process, there will be a pop message asking the user if he wants to have an inbox for it.

Does that pertain to my other accounts, I renamed one hotmail account to an outlook. I am now trying to rename my primary to the outlook account I had. I renamed that outlook to a different name, it does not show it as an associate account per your above instructions. It also will not receive email, and the account can not be logged into. So..hypothetically shouldnt the name have cleared out since it was turned into an alias, then deleted? I am unable to rename my primary hotmail account to the desired outlook account, its actually the same name just @outlook.com. Is it because I renamed another account to outlook, and said account is linked to this one, that I am being blocked from renaming my primary to @outlook.com, in the 180 day period, even though it was not that name. So, do I really have to wait 180 days to use my original outlook name, because it was renamed and turned into an alias. then i deleted the alias, and now want to rename a separate account to that deleted alias? Is there some one I can call to discuss this, or perhaps see if the name is merely clearing out of the system or something, it has been months, and only now am i getting some answere on this forum that are close to resolving the problem.

So it is still either alias, or does not exist. However when you send email to ******@outlook.com, it will not receive any mail, does not exist.

So I should be able to take my old d@hotmail, rename it to @outlook.com shouldnt I, since it is not attached to any other account, and is not grabbed by anyone else, evident based on failed delivery messages to that address (@outlook.com). It should be available to use as a rename of my ******@hotmail.com....

Unless because ******@hotmail.com has several accounts linked to it, one of which is O@hotmail and it was successfully renamed to O@outlook. So the above rename should work, unless because one of my linked account was renamed i can not rename within 180 days...? Even though these are two completely separate accounts? If that is the case I need to count outwards from September 20th.

I have gotten the messages before that I have maxed the number of accounts, I only have 4. 5 I believe is the max, but within one of the 4, it has an alias, the old ******@hotmail.com as an alias, does this or any alias count towards the maximum number of accounts?

I am trying to consolodate my accounts into preferably 2 accounts, of which they each will hold 1 alias, the old email addresses. This will eleminate waste and unused accounts for myself, and for you, Microsoft, thats 7 gb each account liberated, all I wish is to rename that old hotmail account to outlook. even though I had created it. I renamed it, deleted it as an alias, waited 30 days for alias release. it now should be available but i can not rename old account to it.
