Authentication Failed Error on mobile phone

When trying to access my email on my android phone, it says authentication failed.  I logged into my account on the computer, and it works.  I deleted my account on my phone and tried to set it up again.  I still get the authentication error.  Any ideas??  I have been getting my emails on my phone for over 3 years with no problem (same account.

I have Android 4.03 and this wouldn't work.  It isn't just a firmware issue, it is a problem with the app which only seems to work when you're on Wifi (not when on 3G/4G/LTE).

    I too have had the same problem. This is very frustrating. I cannot access my mail through my hotmail app anymore, and the outlook app does not work right. Authentication failed. Why does this change have to take place in the first place?

    Shortened the password to 8 characters.  Still get the failed authentication message.  I have been at this pro
