When trying to access my email on my android phone, it says authentication failed.  I logged into my account on the computer, and it works.  I deleted my account on my phone and tried to set it up again.  I still get the authentication error.  Any ideas??  I have been getting my emails on my phone for over 3 years with no problem (same account.

I have Android 4.03 and this wouldn't work.  It isn't just a firmware issue, it is a problem with the app which only seems to work when you're on Wifi (not when on 3G/4G/LTE).

There are good instructions how to get rid of the app and go back to the old Hotmail app in the 'most helpful reply' here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/mail-sync/why-does-my-phone-app-for-outlookcom-keeps-giving/c52c6772-c73e-4014-adbe-b9a7cff3c041?page=1

I too have had the same problem. This is very frustrating. I cannot access my mail through my hotmail app anymore, and the outlook app does not work right. Authentication failed. Why does this change have to take place in the first place?

If you confirm that the issue only happens on your account, please post this specific account's email address in the private message area that I provided. Make sure that you are signed in to this site to be able to view it.

Please Help.  When Hotmail updated to outlook my email access on my phone (HTC Evo- the 3D one)  was disrupted.  I was able to receive email on my hotmail account but not able to send.  I tried changing the server and the outgoing port to 25 but those did not work either.  I have since tried deleting the account and rebooting my phone, but now I cannot add the hotmail account back on to my phone.  The information for incoming emails (ie: the incoming server info, etc.), all seem to be correct because I am able to move onto the next screen to enter the outgoing information, but when I select next I receive a message stating "Authentication failed.  Please verify your username/password." I am still using my hotmail address and username.  Since deleting the account I have tried changing my password also on my account on my PC, but this has not helped either. Please advise how I can get my hotmail back on my phone and also get it to receive and send emails.  Thanks so much.

    • What are the detailed steps on how you set up your account on your phone?
    • What is the complete error message that you're encountering?
    • Do you encounter the same error when you try to set up a different account?
