When trying to access my email on my android phone, it says authentication failed.  I logged into my account on the computer, and it works.  I deleted my account on my phone and tried to set it up again.  I still get the authentication error.  Any ideas??  I have been getting my emails on my phone for over 3 years with no problem (same account.

I have Android 4.03 and this wouldn't work.  It isn't just a firmware issue, it is a problem with the app which only seems to work when you're on Wifi (not when on 3G/4G/LTE).

There are good instructions how to get rid of the app and go back to the old Hotmail app in the 'most helpful reply' here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/mail-sync/why-does-my-phone-app-for-outlookcom-keeps-giving/c52c6772-c73e-4014-adbe-b9a7cff3c041?page=1

Today, the two step verification process began available to me. Prior to today, I was using the latest version of the Outlook.com app for my Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.2. When I signed up for two step verification, I was automatically signed out of Outlook.com app for Android. I went to sign back in and it sent me a security code. I entered in the security code, next it said "working", after that I was prompted to accept "Let this app access your info" settings, then it said "verifying",  followed by that it said "validating your account", and finally it said "authentication failed authentication was not successful try again".

I tried this several times with different code. I have turn my phone off and on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Nothing worked.

I am unable to use the latest Outlook.com Android app after I signed up for two step verification. After reading other people's issues, it seems the issue is with the latest version of the Outlook.com Android app.

Try on of these and see if these help.

Removing and re-adding your account from the phone. Check out this link for the steps: Mobile Outlook.com (Phone may have to restart to work)

Ensure that the mail server settings are properly configured. Refer to this link for the values: Send and receive Hotmail from an email app

Ensure you phone has the most recent firmware update. You can do this but check with the phone maker. ( They usually have a downloader or something you can you to check from a PC)

If your android firmware is lower than 2.3 the outlook app will not work. You can check your firmware version by going to "Settings" and "About Phone" and " Firmware Version". If it has 2.2.(whatever) the app won't work. Been looking around and it seems like this is what the most common presences is.

Hopefully Microsoft is working on this and it will be fixed on the next update. People with the older versions of Android are pretty much SOL'd and will have to reply on 3rd party email apps or linking the email account to another providers email account (i.e. Hotmail link to Gmail so your emails go to the Gmail account

I have the same issue.  Authentication Failure.  I have loaded and unloaded the Android application several times and I have also changed the password several times without success.
