outlook error 'copying meetings is not supported' when copying to PST

I really think this should be fixed by MSFT rather than them just disabling it. Copying meeting invites is a very useful feature.

I used the copy meeting hourly as I can keep every meeting on the same Teams chat, this really sucks

This is now an undesirable feature as referenced in this Microsoft support page:

Workaround is an unfriendly registry edit:

If you have a need to re-enable copying meetings, you can set a non-policy registry key. As noted above, the practice of copying meetings can cause unexpected issues. If you re-enable the functionality and experience issues, please delete the copied meeting, and start with a new meeting. The Outlook Support Team will not troubleshoot issues related to copied meetings. 

Use this registry key to re-enable copying meetings: 

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar] 

"EnableMeetingCopy"=DWORD:1

I'm no expert but know enough to make simple changes to the registry. For this "problem", I did it like this:

1. In the Windows search tool, I start typing "registry". At some point the Registry Editor app comes up and I use the menu to Open it.
2. Once in the registry editor, items are organized on the left just like File Explorer.
3. I use this to navigate to the "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office" folder as shown in other posts in this thread
   • At this point, it is important to know which version of Office you're running ... but you eventually want to get to one that ends with \Outlook\Options\Calendar, again as shown in other posts in this thread.
4. If the EnableMeetingCopy key doesn't exist, you can add it by right-clicking in the item list, selecting the New option that comes up (it was the only thing that came up when I did the right click), and selecting the DWORD (32-bit) item.
5. You type in EnableMeetingCopy as the name, then right click on this new key, select Modify, the finally change the Value data field to 1 and click on OK.

At least that's how I did it ... !

When Microsoft determines that a change is due to "best practice", run the other way, as it's going to "fix" things that weren't actually problems. This is their reasoning: "This is an intentional change to prevent copying meetings. Actions related to copied meetings yield unexpected results, so we recommend avoiding copying meetings. This has been a long-standing documented best practice. To limit the unexpected issues, the Outlook Team implemented blocking copying meetings." I drag-n-copy meetings in Outlook regularly (or at least I used to), especially with diverse distributions or complex notes / directions (like a ZOOM call)., so this change is particularly annoying for me.

The workaround defined at the link above does work ... if you're conversant with the registry and how to edit it - and know that you actually have to create this key e.g., it doesn't exist to edit:

And, of course, MS basically says if you screw it up, don't come crying to us: "The Outlook Support Team will not troubleshoot issues related to copied meetings."

The arrogance of these people is amazing, even if it's not new - who do they think they are to tell me what a best practice is for my company?
