Hi Insiders-

There is updated search functionality in the latest Insider Fast update of OneNote for Mac that many people have been asking for; view this thread Mac: search fortags. To get the update, go to Help > Check for Updates, and opt into the Insiders program and choose the Fast updates. If you have Insiders Fast builds 16.18.0 (18091900), or newer, you should see the feature.

    Hi Ben,

Yes, spot on, the suggestions should reappear as the index rebuilds. Do let me know if the deleted pages ever reappear in your results.

Meanwhile, I'll try to figure out how we ended up indexing them in the first place.

    Thanks,

    Abhinav

    Hi Abhinav,

All deleted content was showing up in a search result, not just that page.

Deleting those folders does appear to have fixed the issue. I no longer see deleted content in the results. Thanks!

I'm also no longer getting suggested tags to search for in the dropdown. Will these suggestions reappear as the index rebuilds and becomes aware of what tags I've used?

    Thanks

    Ben.

    Hi Ben,

Thanks so much for investigating! Showing deleted content in search is not by design and there's definitely a bug here. I'll investigate on my end see if I can narrow down the problem.

Do you see other deleted pages in results as well or is it just this one?

Meanwhile, can you see if deleting the following directories and restarting OneNote fixes the problem (search will be slow for a while after you delete these directories).

    /Users/<Your username>/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.onenote.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft User Data/OneNote/15.0/MasterIndex/

    /Users/<Your username>/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.onenote.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft User Data/OneNote/15.0/FullTextSearchIndex/

    /Users/<Your username>/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.onenote.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft User Data/OneNote/15.0/AccessibilityCheckerIndex/

    Thanks!

    Abhinav

    Hi,

I checked and there's no duplicate page in the main notebook. The only result searching for that phrase is that deleted page, although it would be good if this was either not shown, or perhaps grouped at the bottom of the results list to show it's a deleted note.

Just like with tags, I don't want deleted pages showing up in my searches either unless they're differentiated in some way from non-deleted. If I was searching for a common phrase I'd have to wade through lots of deleted content to find what I'm after.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

    Thanks Ben!

There's a known bug with deleted page resurrection where two pages might end up with same IDs and search gets confused. I want to try and figure out if this is the same bug or a different bug in the search logic.

Could you please see if there's another non-deleted page in your notes which is a copy of this deleted page? If it's a large notebook, perhaps trying to search for "Set up new class blogs for move up day" in the Pages tab will help you narrow it down.
