Outlook v15.20 - signature now has image embedded not a link

We allow for a block of HTML with linked images to be pasted into the Outlook for Mac signature. These contain IMG links like:

<img src="https://myimagehost.com/user/123/image"/>

In our application (that's a dummy host above), we host the image desired by the user at the link specified. This may return one image for a while, but we let users upload a new image, which we then replace at the same link.

For example I could update a company logo image by changing the image at the link above, so it would load my new logo next time it's displayed. These links are generated ONCE by our product, and are present in the HTML block that a user would paste into Outlook.

We aren't changing the image "src" dynamically - that always stays the same. Instead we simply change the image file that is returned from the URL. When images are embedded in version 15.19+, the external link is removed and no longer referenced, so changing the file that is resolved to doesn't change the signature in Outlook 2016.

We had bug for linking to images earlier in the year, but it was fixed for the most common cases.  In your post, you mention "our use case relies on pasting HTML & hosted images into the signature, then changing where links resolve, in order to update images."   Are you saying that you are changing the URL dynamically?  If so, that is likely the issue.  Can you elaborate on how you are generating the URL to the image (post a sanitized HTML snippet if you can)?

A thousand times this! I gave up with the "support" we were getting as of 15.23 and reverted our entire company back to Outlook 2011 due to this issue.

I spent several hours on the phone with level 1 and 2 support last week (Case #****1353630666), replicating the image embedding issue. I had several customers recently reach out to tell me that images in their signatures weren't updating like they should through a hosted image.  I'm running 15.25 (160817), no insider updates.

The issue still persists for myself and several of my customers - our use case relies on pasting HTML & hosted images into the signature, then changing where links resolve, in order to update images.

After a lot of demoing, the support teams were able to say that the ability to have linked images was removed around version 15.19, and that they would forward information on to the product team.

I see now that this thread goes back to March, which doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the ability to get things resolved. I wanted to chime in to mention that images are still being embedded in 15.25, and I have also noticed the other image/font rendering problems that others have mentioned.

The image embedding behavior does not exist in Outlook for Mac 2011, and it was NOT part of the original 2016 build. I'm seeing a fairly massive desire in this thread alone to bring that back!
