Is there a way to make Autoupdate ONLY run manually

First, yes, I've explicitly disabled all notifications for autoupdate, disabled "Automatically keep apps up to date" and disabled same in prefs.

There, I trust that shall end questions about notification or app settings.

The silly thing runs once a day. In the background, but it's always there, so what's the magic to stopping this. It's annoying because it's absolutely ignoring user wishes, and the inability to obviously stop it is maddening.

    Hi

    I take it that you mean the app is running silently in the background, and that it is honoring your choice to not install updates or to notify you about them.

    Or do you still get notifications that updates are available?

    If you're getting notifications, it typically means you have multiple copies of one or more Office applications installed. Getting rid of the duplicate app(s) fixes this problem.

    If it bothers you that the app is running in the background, you might uninstall the app, which would make it impossible for you to get the weekly beta channel updates. Or you might write an Applescript that quits the application.

    The app runs hidden (for some value of hidden) in the background, whether I wish it to or not.

    Once upon a time, one could have a fully manual update check, in that it didn't run *at all* unless I explicitly checked for updates. That is what I would like. There are a multitude of ways for me to deal with this, but they all require me doing more work than should be required, which is "zero". I do not see why manual-only is now some kind of forbidden option.

    Hi John,

    When I monitor my Mac using Activity Monitor, Microsoft AutoUpdate does not appear until I launch it from the Help menu of an Office application. Is your experience different?
