Hi, I am getting an update error installing Microsoft Excel 16.97 on Mac OS Sequoia. I am currently on 16.96. The install stops near the end of the progress bar for a long time and then I get an update error.

I've had similar issues before and resolved by installing from the pkg file but I can't find the 16.97 install file.

Is it possible to download a pkg file?

    MacOS 15.4.1

Created a new admin account but still the same issue.

It gets to this point quickly and then stops for several minutes before finally failing.

Aha! It's just the Excel update that won't install.

This is a server error of some sort. Either the update didn't get fully uploaded to the update server, or it's corrupt in some way. This is an issue with the server that services your downloads.

This happens to me every once in a while with apps in the beta program. My solution is to wait a couple days. The server gets updated periodically and then the install works again. The longest I think you'd ever have to wait is one week.

However, if you use the Menu Bar and choose Help > Feedback > Report a Problem and describe what's going on with the Excel update from the server and that the other apps update as expected, maybe someone on the Microsoft side can reset the server.

    Hi MikePugh2,

    Hope you are doing well.

    Thank you for reply.

Good to know that you provided the exact edition of Office you are using as you use beta channel version. As I checked this post and together with our MVP advisor as they recommend, may I know if this is already answered your question as they have informed that this is server issue of our system? So that I will have to close this one. Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Bo

This has been like this for well over a week now, a bit strange it's not been sorted on the server.

If you have ready access to a different internet provider, you might try switching providers temporarily.
