As of yesterday, the display of my teams will no longer collapse the left side panel. I've tried settings, restarting the app, and restarting the computer. It used to open after selecting one of the options next to it, like chat or teams and then it would automatically close after I selected what I wanted from those options. How do I get it to collapse again?

I was able to fix this issue. I completely uninstalled teams from my computer and restarted my computer. Than after resinstalling it the tab collapsed as it shouldn

Reseting, Reinstalling, Signing out, etc are all temporary workarounds that work for a day or two and then it goes back to being locked/stucked and will no longer auto-collapse.
This seems to be either a "feature", which is completely stupid or a bug that MS needs to fix ASAP. Either case, it's stupid and needs to be fixed.
I was ready to set sweet sweet fire to the teams app until I tried your suggestion. You saved my sanity.
You are right, the steps provided previously works for classic Teams, For New Teams, you will need to reset the teams as provided in Clear Teams cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn, see the screenshot below.
