How can I download a video clip that was recorded and sent in Teams chat?

Hi,

A college recorded and sent a short video clip in Teams chat. The clip was recorded by a mobile device directly from the recording function in Teams chat: Send a video clip in Teams - Microsoft Support

I can view the video clip the Teams chat, but I want to download the file. The file is not in the "file" tab in the chat.

How can I download the video file from the chat?

    This is one of the most annoying issues regards Teams. I constantly get videos from people and can't download them. What I usually end up doing is either asking them to upload on Onedrive and share a link, or I screen record on my phone so I can have it. It's not a perfect solution, but it helps until Microsoft decides to simply put a download button as an option.

    I'm not sure if this functionality was never in the iOS app, or if it has been removed since, but the "share" option never opens for this case. I had to screen-record the video in question.

    For me this happened when I was sent multiple videos in one message, the first one was un-downloadable, the other two showed up as downloadable files in the chat.

    Using screen record (in my case, Windows + G) as a workaround is ridiculous and should never have been necessary in the first place.

    Funnily enough, I can drag-n-drop the video's first frame onto my desktop when I have not started playback yet.

    Hey I found a solution.

    You need the mobile app.

    Within the App open the chat containing the video

    Tab the video and wait for the menu to open

    Click on "Share"

    This will download the video and you are able to save it e.g. OneDrive

    I used the Android version of Teams: (Android 13)

    • Shared the video(s) to a File-Manager and saved them on the phone.

    From there one can watch or re-share the video-files.

    This is not how it should be - but this is what worked for me:

    On my phone (only works on my phone, not on desktop), I long pressed on the video file and selected share, then I could select someplace to send it. If it is short, you can email it to yourself. You can send it to Dropbox or OneDrive. I luckily have an app where I can send it to our Synology NAS.

    It is not perfect, but it was the workaround that got me going. MS should definitely fix this.
