How can I download a video clip that was recorded and sent in Teams chat?

Hi,

A college recorded and sent a short video clip in Teams chat. The clip was recorded by a mobile device directly from the recording function in Teams chat: Send a video clip in Teams - Microsoft Support

I can view the video clip the Teams chat, but I want to download the file. The file is not in the "file" tab in the chat.

How can I download the video file from the chat?

    This worked for me and was a different path to download a shared video clip in Team chat than normal.

    Usually, a clip appears in chat in its own box with a file name and the "three dots" options menu is included, which gives you the option to download (image reference attached).

    Sometimes, however, the clip just appears as a playable video within Teams directly, rather than as a file or attachment. Not sure what causes the difference, but when this viewable video clip format appears instead, the only way I found to actually download it (since the menu is not present, nor the download option), is to follow Steven's advice, which was as follows (on an Android phone, at least):

    1. Use the mobile app version
    2. Open the Teams chat
    3. Press and hold the image of the video
    4. A menu pops up from the bottom with two options: Share Video or Message Options
    5. Choose the Share Video option and it will access your phone's shareable routes. For me, I have Google Drive set up on my phone, so I was able to "share" the video directly to it, which, in essence, downloaded the video as a file.

    This is a ridiculous workaround, but it does indeed work.

    I'm not sure why some videos appear as a file and can be played or downloaded, while others appear as a playable video only, with limited options, but here we are.

    I also have a similar problem. To summarize, a work related video was recorded (using their phone) in another part of the hospital. It was sent to me using Teams. I cannot download or save it to my computer. I need this video for work I am doing. Thanks!

    I'm not sure how much more slowly we have to type so you can understand.

    The link you provided explains how to save a Teams meeting recording.

    As noted above, "It is not a recording of a meeting, but a video clip recorded by my college in the video function in the Teams chat (add -> media -> camera -> video)."

    Instead of having the user send the video from their teams app, have them navigate to their phone camera library, click SHARE, and then if MS Teams is an app on their phone, they will be able to share to TEAMS, and send it to you. The upload takes substantially longer, but NOW the video will be in a format where you can download it. Let me know if that worked for you. Best of luck!
