Can't connect Bluetooth headset to Android Teams

This seems to be an ongoing issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Until recently I had no problems connecting my Bluetooth headphones. Now I cannot. My AKG, NuraTrue, Sony wh1000mx5. All fail. I cannot find any setting in my phone app that allows me to choose my headset like the pc application does.

This appears to be an issue with MS Teams, not user error, device connectivity, etc.

I have tried the following advice previously posted without success.

  • Clearing the cache of your Android phone's Teams app by signing out and closing the Teams App. Then go to Phone Settings > Apps & Notifications > Teams > Storage & Cache > Clear Storage and Clear Cache and confirm your action. After that, please re-open the Teams App and sign in again to see if it makes a difference.
  • Unpair the device from Bluetooth devices (Forget devices), then reconnect.
  • Updating to the latest version of Teams for Android phones should resolve the issue, and Bluetooth should work properly with both devices

Please provide advice on how I can fix this issue. It is critical for my work.

TIA

Hi NatashaGoode,

You may try the other options below. Hope that one of the solutions will solve the issue.

  1. Check also the apps permission on your phone like camera, microphone and also nearby devices.

Go to Settings -> Apps -> Teams -> Permissions -> Allow access to "Nearby devices"

  1. Try to connect with your bluetooth device first before you open the Teams.

Please let me know if this doesn't work or if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Alright, this is a new twist to this issue.

My company used Skype well before Teams' existence, so some of us still use Skype to voice call each other as a habit as it is more reliable than one-to-one Teams voice call. I have noticed if I end a Teams meeting/call and then immediately use Skype to voice call someone, the audio from Bluetooth headset will not be heard on the Skype call. I can switch to handset and it will have audio.

After weeks of experimenting, I noticed if I disable "Nearby devices" permission in Teams, then the same sequence of ending a Teams call then try to make Skype voice call works on the Bluetooth headset. Interestingly, even if I remove "Nearby devices" permission for Teams, it could still route audio to my Bluetooth headset. In looking at Android specs, "Nearby devices" permission is NOT needed to access Bluetooth audio stack. This permission is to RF scan nearby devices as in discovering nearby devices, such as audio conference systems or speakers.

I am a little surprised that Teams and Skype haven't found ways to work, without interfering each other.

The above suggestion did not resolve my issue (Bluetooth not an Audio option for meetings), but here's what I did to fix it based on other's comments.

    1. From Above -> Confirmed permission
    2. This was likely a separate issue, but my phone was having issues with the WiFi, it was connected but running very slowly. I resolved this by going to WiFi Networks and forgetting the problem WiFi. Shut down and rebooted my phone (better cache clear than a restart). Connected to the WiFi network.
    3. Sign out of MS Teams from within the App
    4. Close the MS Teams App
    5. Shut down and reboot the phone (better cache clear than restart)
    6. Connect Bluetooth headset to phone
    7. Open the MS Teams App and sign in
    8. Select a meeting to join, and selected Bluetooth as audio option (was not appearing before)

All of those steps my not be necessary for everyone, particularly my step 2, but it worked for me when all other individual methods posted did not. Hopefully this helps others!
