Delete a Plan in New Teams Planner

I am using New Teams.

I want to delete a plan I created but can't work out how.

All online advice refers to 3 dots or "settings" that don't exist, and perhaps are referencing Classic Teams.

The plan is listed under Shared Plans.

The App is called Tasks by Planner and To Do (By Microsoft)

For those who are still having this issue, at this current point in time you still can't delete a plan directly through teams, but you can do it through the Planner web app in the browser. I was able to do so by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Teams channel where the plan is located.
  2. Click on the dropdown of the "Tasks" tab at the top of the channel (or whatever plan you are trying to delete).
  3. Click "Open in browser" to open the plan in your browser.
  4. Click the 3 dots at the upper middle of the screen, next to Grid, Board, Charts, Schedule, Timeline.
  5. Click "Plan Settings".
  6. At the bottom of the side pane, click "Delete this plan".
  7. Check "I understand that this plan and all of its tasks will be permanently deleted", then click "Delete".

Just a note, it won't necessarily be called "Tasks" - the tab name will be whatever you called the plan. Also, you should be able to delete the plan through the Tasks web app (https://tasks.office.com/), if you created the plan through the new Teams planner app:

  1. Go to https://tasks.office.com/
  2. On the left of the screen (desktop mode), select the plan you are trying to delete (you may have to click "Show More")
  3. Click the 3 dots at the upper middle of the screen, next to Grid, Board, Charts, Schedule, Timeline.
  4. Click "Plan Settings".
  5. At the bottom of the side pane, click "Delete this plan".
  6. Check "I understand that this plan and all of its tasks will be permanently deleted", then click "Delete".

    1. Go to the Teams channel where the plan is located.

    2. There IS NO "Tasks" tab at the top of the channel.

    3. As a result, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find the plan you want to delete under the "Shared Plans" section. There is no "Shared Plans" section

    4. Hovering over the three dots that appear on a Plan name in the list in Planner DOES NOT give the option to delete.

    5. You CANNOT select "Delete plan" from the drop-down menu, as this option DOES NOT EXIST

    This is a Plan that I CREATED. It is not yet shared with any other Team member.

    I SIMPLY WANT TO DELETE IT. You should not be able to create anything that you cannot delete. In the same way that you should not be able to switch anything on that you cannot switch off. This is a BASIC design principle, which (of course) Microsoft fails to follow. Ignorance is bliss.

    I HATE Microsoft as it CONSISTENTLY provides only frustration and stress. Having suffered their software for nearly 30 years, it NEVER operates as advertised. BASIC functions (like the user being able to delete a Plan THEY created) are rendered IMPOSSIBLE, because Microsoft's incompetent, lazy developers do not bother to think about usability, and NEVER FINISH ANYTHING.

    I also do not have the 3 dots and could find no way to delete a Plan from tasks.office.com.

    But there's a very non-obvious way to delete one from Teams:

    Let's assume your plan is called VeryBadDesign.

    1. Navigate to the plan page. Teams → Planner → My Plans → (Open plan 'VeryBadDesign' by clicking on it) At the top, you'll see something like: 
       My Plans > **VeryBadDesign**        Grid    Board    Schedule    Charts
    2. Click on the VeryBadDesign text (the bolded bit above that really doesn't look like a button). It will open a Plan settings panel.
    3. At the bottom of the panel, you'll find 'Delete this plan'. Click it and celebrate.

    This works for the version of New Teams that I have, but it seems there can be slight interface differences for different people. YMMV

    In New MS Planner, the 3 dots do not have any choice to delete plan.
