Why is when i use the "New" teams, my taskbar doesnt show status just says "new"

Hi Everyone,

I had the same issue, I tried deleting cache and reinstalling the teams, however it did not help.

Then I found that my taskbar setting was preventing the application from showing the online status in the Teams icon.

Go to task bar setting> Show badges on taskbar buttons >ON

This worked for me.

I got a notification when I opened teams that there was an update and in it this was fixed but then nothing actually changed....

I followed and this looks like it resets the system to the old teams. Honestly, I'll take the old teams over seeing that annoying "new" on the taskbar all the time instead of my status or nothing at all.

I hope Microsoft fixes that soon so that the updated teams can be used without cringing every 5 seconds. We knew it was new when we agreed to it, we really don't need a literal constant reminder lol.

I had the same issue this morning when my teams app updated to the NEW platform. After several trial and errors, I was able to get the # of messages on my taskbar icon!

You will need to uninstall the old teams app (classic version) and make sure you also have "Register the new Teams as the chat app for Microsoft 365 (requires restarting Microsoft 365 applications)" as Brooke mentioned! This also fixed my issue of not seeing statuses within outlook when responding to emails.

I still cannot update my status from taskbar icon and the NEW label is there, but I can now at least see the number of messages I have to respond too. I hope this helps!

Is Microsoft ever going to fix this? This is really annoying, please advise if anyone out there has a solution to this. I cannot revert back to the old MS Teams, when I do my Outlook stops working!
