Organize chats

I'd like to group chats together, not people.

I know this has been asked before, but the solution provided is not working anymore.

I get both personal chat messages and group chats chat messages from several hundred people and would like to categorize them to find, e.g. all messages from a certain group. I found that I can make Contact Groups, which means I can group several contacts into one group, but I cannot add "group chats" to such a contact group. How do I do this? thanks.

    Until chats have the same functionality as Slack, I will continue to be bitter about being forced to use Teams.

    What makes Slack better?

    Organized chats -> Need ability to create groups. Plus I want my chats to stay in the order I set, I don't need newest to top, I need them to stay in the same place so I know where to find. Don't make me do a search each time, that's annoying.

    Easier to read -> Slack is so much easier to read than Teams. Use of bold fonts, larger font size, larger image, large status icons, more status icons, all left-aligned. Being able to really see what my team is doing is important, not just if they are busy or not, we have very quick turnarounds/deadlines and need to be more specific about our status.

    Filters -> It resets every time!! Super annoying!

    Quite frankly this is Teams biggest drawback and it goes beyond just organising chats. It stems from this insistence in separating chats and channels. To most people I know It's not intuitive, and what happens every time is that people mostly ignore channels and have their entire company communication structure around chats. The product would be miles better if Microsoft wasn't so opinionated about the modes of communication within teams, and just made chats the focal point of messaging communication with more tools and management options for users.

    This is why coming from a tool like Slack, Teams feels like such a downgrade...

    Perhaps I've been spoilt by using Zoom previously.

    There I could create group channels AND have groups for individual chats, contacts.

    I had channels for group discussions for different topics and projects

    I also had groups for contacts so I could see the online status of team quickly and I could snooze the groups holding all my 'social' conversations and work event updates.

    Why is MS Teams so clunky in this regard?

    Can you please elaborate on "custom folders or labels outside Teams to organise chats"?

    outside teams? Does that mean another app?

    Absolutely this - PLUS having them separated out so you have to switch views to see them that adds the most inertia to using them.

    If personal chats and channels were all in one view then I think it more likely that people would use channels for group chat.
