Export a Wiki to a OneNote notebook instructions don't work

Export a Wiki to a OneNote notebook says,

Export a Wiki to OneNote - In Teams, go to the standard channel whose Wiki you want to export. - On the wiki banner, select Get details. Select Export to Notes, and then select Finish.

What is the wiki banner?

Where do you find Get details?

Where do you Select Export to Notes?

I have access to Teams that have had Wiki pages for ages and I have added new Wiki pages to my test team, created today. "Get details", and, "Select Export to Notes", don't appear anywhere

Any ideas?

Hello Guy,

The explanation why some are not seeing any of that which Microsoft is suggesting is simply because it is not available for everyone just YET. They recently started rolling this out, and it won't be available for everyone everywhere at the same time!

To be fair, the instructions page does mention "Coming soon".

This is what the "banner" will look like:

So, it will be a banner below the menu bar with a tannish background color and a button on the righthand side reading "Get details".

And here's a screenshot of what the export tool will look like, with the "Export to Notes" button:

As depicted in these two steps in Microsoft's instructions:

In Teams, go to the standard channel whose Wiki you want to export.
On thewikibanner, selectGet details*. SelectExport to Notes, and then selectFinish.*

Also, the message in the Message Center (of the Microsoft 365 Admin Center) contains this subtle hint at the end:

"We urge users to export their channel wikis to OneNote once it is available."

Clicking the "Export to Notes" just results in this helpfull message:

Export didn't complete

Looks like something went wrong, and you'll need to restart the export. If the problem persists, contact your IT admin for help.

I've found that I was able to export one wiki to OneNote, but not another. In the first case, it looked just as the instructions said it would and worked great. In the second, the option to export is simply not there. Ideas? I am an owner of both channels. The only difference I see is that the second channel is private (lock icon), but I'm an owner. May not be relevant. I don't know.

Since copy/paste function in the Wiki is awful, how else can I preserve this information?

Hi everyone

I've found a Microsoft timeline:

Phase 1: Early March 2023 - users unable to create new Wiki Pages; can access & edit existing Wiki pages; can start exporting to OneNote. Once exported, Wiki will become read-only

Phase 2: June 2023 - Microsoft will no longer support the Wiki page, but you can still export to OneNote.

Phase 3: January 2024 - Wiki page inaccessible in Teams & unable to export within Teams.

Content in SharePoint will remain, according to your company's retention policy.

Export Wiki to OneNote: My experience
- I got the notification banner this morning - yay! :-)
- The Wizard was very easy to use
- It creates a OneNote for you (there was speculation as to whether you had to add a OneNote on a tab before the export.) I can confirm that the Wizard adds the OneNote on a tab for you during the export process
- Note: it does not export graphics from Wiki to OneNote
- It does export tables
- It does export hyperlinks
- Wiki becomes read-only after the export, but I was able to click into the contents of my table in the (old) Wiki

I have a backup plan in case the Microsoft-supplied wizard doesn't work for us.

You can download from a Standard channel Wiki page from SharePoint: (backup if we can't get hyperlinks to export to OneNote. Recommend only do when nothing else will be added or edited in Wiki in Teams)
- Open the Teams site (Demo Team for Rj)
- Take note of the Wiki pages that have hyperlinks in it
- Click on General channel for now
- Click on the ellipsis top-right > Open in SharePoint
- Click on Site contents in the left panel > Teams Wiki Data in the first column > General folder
- Click next to one of the Wiki pages that you noted had hyperlinks in it which places a tick in a circle next to it
- Click on the down arrow next to Word Open on the top ribbon. Select Open in app
- Content will be copied to a Word file and the Word file will open on screen
- You will notice when you hover over hyperlinks that the "h" is missing from "https" even though this is included in the hyperlink on the Wiki page
- Recommendation is to:
  
  highlight the text containing the hyperlink
  
  Right-click, edit hyperlink
  
  Ctrl A, Ctrl C
  
  Click on Remove Link button
  
  Click in the Address box and Ctrl V to paste. Then add the "h" at the beginning (it doesn't work if you add the "h" at step 2)
  
  OK
  
  Save as
  
  Change the file type from Single File Web page to Word Document
Download content from a Teams Private Channel's Wiki:
- Open the Teams site (Teams Demo for training purposes for Rj)
- Take note of the Wiki pages that have hyperlinks in it
- Click on the private channel (private channels have their own SharePoint site)
- Click on the ellipsis top-right > Open in SharePoint
- Click on Site contents in the left panel >
- Click on Site contents in the left panel > Teams Wiki Data in the first column
- Click on the name of the private channel to open the folder
The rest of the instructions are the same as above for Standard channels.
