[Fix found!] Bluetooth headphones not working in MS Teams after Windows 11 upgrade

Other ideas online failed, but this works! I was having the hardest time trying to get my Bluetooth headphones (bose 700) to work after my company updated me to Windows 11 on my Dell 5550 laptop. I manually tried updating the Intel Bluetooth and WiFi Drivers from Intel's website. that didn't help. I knew a few others seeing this problem on their own PCs as well. Our headphones would work in browsers, apps in windows 11, but not in MS Teams. We tried many other options until one fixed it... So here it is. Does this work for others as well?

I first go into Bluetooth and Devices

Then click on View more devices

Then scroll down and click on More Devices and Printer Settings.

Then I right click on my headphones icon and go to Properties

Then go to the Services tab and Uncheck the Handsfree Telephony option.

After unchecking this, my headphones work in MS Teams!!

If I untick the option "Handsfree telephony", I lost the microphone on Teams, but I have the audio playing on the headset.

If I keep the "Handsfree telephony" and untick the option "Audio sink", my microphone work, but I lost the audio.

Update for Feb 11th, 2025 Windows 11 users - Neither of these fixes resolve the issue for any of our users. Multiple of whom are experiencing this same issue across different machines and headset brands. Users experience this across different versions of Teams

It should be mentioned that after a user with this issue leaves a call they hear a sharp squeaking noise for a few seconds in the headset and sometimes out of the laptops actual speakers.

    1. Disabling HandsFree Telephony removes the bluetooth headset microphone from teams all together.
    2. Re-enabling it and unselecting 'Audio Sink' and 'Unknown Service' will cause the mic to work at the time, but once leaving a meeting and rejoining (including quitting Teams and restarting) brings us back to the same issue.

Lots of troubleshooting going into this already so I appreciate everyone's answers! Just looking for an actual, permanent solution.

Fast forward to Feb 2025 and it is still an issue. My setup is Windows 10 (not Win 11) and I still have this issue.

For a Pixel Buds A-Series Bluetooth headset, the right sequence of settings to enable both Teams Speaker and Microphone (so others can hear you) to work properly is to disable Audio Sink, all the Unknown Services and ENABLE Handsfree Telephony.

Unchecking Handsfree Telephony for a headset that has microphone and speaker has the effect of disconnecting audio from Teams Completely (at least that was my experience). I did multiple trial and error with various settings and Handsfree Telephony was required for my buds to work properly.

During by troubleshooting, there was a point where I could not enable Handsfree Telephone (kept getting a Parameter is incorrect error). A reboot of my Windows 10 machine fixed that and I was able to use the settings as shown in the screen shot below.

Thanks for the article - it led me to the right fixes.
